Paid Members garynysmon Posted May 1 Paid Members Posted May 1 (edited) Yeah, the snooker 'walk ons' are a good idea in practice, but just come across as awkward as the players aren't trying to play up to the crowd unlike Darts. Half of them seem pissed off with Rob Walker tbh. But.... As a fan of Darts and Snooker, I do sometimes wonder if snooker players absolutely have to play in front of utter silent crowds. I.e how much of it is tradition and how much of it is necessity. We used to have 'best of order' in Darts up until the late 90's and while PDC crowds are utter cretins, the standard of play and scoring has continued to skyrocket. I'm genuinely curious, given Snooker players must be used to playing in dark and loud Snooker halls, if its 100% necessary or could they do it anyway. Maybe background noise rather than someone intentionally trying to put them off just as they take a shot. Edited May 1 by garynysmon Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted May 1 Paid Members Posted May 1 I remember seeing Ronnie O’Sullivan saying he would rather they make noise. It’s what makes the shootout fun. A bit of noise would be fine. And less noise in the darts, like the Circus Tavern days, would be ideal. Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Wasn't there that one frame thing that Hearn tried where the crowd could make as much noise as they want. But it just seemed to bring out a bunch of wannabee comedians shouting out unfunny bollocks non stop. They were so annoying they made your average UK wrestling crowd seem normal. If that's what snooker crowds are like if you let them make noise, I'm pretty happy they are quiet. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted May 2 Members Posted May 2 Shaun Murphy has been absolutely superb this championship and especially in that final session. Higgins has been brilliant, but Shaun deserved that. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted May 2 Members Posted May 2 There is absolutely nothing on earth like snooker, it is the greatest sport in the world. That was incredible drama, and a fantastic match, but Mark Allen will be haunted by that black forever won't he? When he missed it, I made a noise that made the cat jump off my lap across the room. Just sensational. WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Quote

Paid Members Scratch Posted May 3 Paid Members Posted May 3 Being the only person in history to get a 147, a 9-dart finish and a hole in one, Murphy can step aside and let Wu take this one. Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted May 3 Paid Members Posted May 3 Makes me laugh how Murphy still claims he hit the 9 darter, on what I believe he said was his first game of darts. He was throwing with Luke Humphries and Michael Van Gerwen a couple of years ago and his first dart was so shocking, MVG was behind him and gave an elongated “yeah” while smiling. Knowing what utter shit he was talking. Anyway, Murphy is a wanker and I don’t care how good his long potting is. Wu for the win. Quote
King Coconut Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Murphy clearly thinks he's Lindsey Buckingham with his massive forehead. What a pellet. Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I know for some people it might be jarring, but Shaun Murphy always comes across really well on Stephen Hendry's YouTube channel. He seems like a nice bloke behind the scenes. Just like Hendry himself, who I thought might be a bit of a knob through his playing career, but it turns out he gets along with everyone and seem really chilled out. Here he is with Ronnie, and it's sweet as Ronnie fanboy's Hendry a bit and calls him a big inspiration. Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted May 4 Members Posted May 4 A brilliant final, and fair play to Shaun but WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. The greatest sporting competition comes to an end again for another year, and I've loved every second of it. Quote
