Great first day of the final, with Xintong being absolutely belting this afternoon and Williams showing great resilience this evening.

The crowd as always have annoyed me. Do you really have to shout SHOT while the ball is still travelling every time and do you have to be quite such dicks when a player misses a pot?

I get being happy when your favourite makes a great pot but celebrating  wildly when someone misses doesn't feel right and in the snooker spirit.

The "COME ON MARK!" nonces have almost been as bad as the "COME ON RONNIE!!!" nonces.

Despite me being annoyed, cracking day of snooker.

I’m strangely enjoying watching the seniors snooker and fancy going as its probably my only chance of getting to the Crucible.

My only gripe (and the same with the seniors darts really), is that let’s be honest, all we want to see are ex-players we all know from the pro tour as a nostalgia hit.

So I wish they wouldn’t fill out the field with nobodies who just happen to play half decent stuff in their 50’s, resulting in some random Brazilian to end up winning more often than not.

The British Open starts today on ITV4.

I watched quite a bit of the English Open last week. It wasn't the most exciting tournament despite there being two 147 breaks.

I was really impressed with how much Elliott Slessor has improved. Aaron Hill had a decent week too.

Season has already peaked with this like on commentary.

"We've seen some John Higgins misses this evening." -camera zooms in on John Higgins' wife - "And there's John Higgins' missus."

Good UK's that. Tight pockets made it more entertaining and the final was some quality viewing. Selby has become one of my favourites in recent years given his openess around mental health struggles. Overtakes Higgins in terms of triple crown wins.

I've been getting a load of snooker in my Youtube algorithm, probably down to the death of John Virgo. I've been watching quite a bit here and there and fancied something a bit more recent so I've stuck the BetVictor Championship League Snooker feed on and I didn't realise how much shithousing was in snooker.
Tom Ford vs Si Jiahui and Tom left him a bit snookered behind the brown so Si's had a crack and missed, giving Tom 4 points. Tom then had a free ball but had Si retake the shot over and over and racked up about 26 points watching him miss the red and foul.

The algorithm also dug up a few episodes of Big Break, which up to this point was my only exposure to snooker outside of a few friendlies at Rileys when we had one of those. They had a Sega Saturn bundle as a prize but the voiceover announcer called it a Mega Drive and then Jim Davidson later called it a Mega Drive Computer. Shocking stuff.

I’m fully down the Welsh Open rabbithole as it were, it’s been on every day since I believe Day 2.

I’m coming into blind so forgive me if my opinions are ill judged and reactionary!

I’ve not gelled with any of the Chinese lads. A lot of them even from the first day I was watching were hyped up pretty big, but none of them have lived up to the hype from what I’ve seen other than Bingyu walloping Shaun Murphy but even he got knocked out the next day by Jackson Page.

Speaking of being knocked out, I believe all the Welsh lads are out now too which is a shame for the Welsh open and especially for fan (or at least pundit) favourite Mark Williams.

I took an almost immediate dislike to Neil Robertson who hasn’t let go of his 2006 hairstyle and has a real nonchalantness about him in the interviews. A lot of chat about how he maybe doesn’t practice that much and he’s off playing golf. There’s something about him I just didn’t like so I was cheering on his opponents but he just kept winning!

He took out Hossain Vaifaei comfortably. I got a glimpse of Hossain a few years back when he had that manufactured beef with Ronnie O Sullivan so I was expecting him to be some sort of heel still when he rocked up here but nobody seemed to give a shit about him and he was promptly dumped out. Where is Ronnie anyway? Has he retired?

Barry Hawkins has been my favourite so far. Came into the week complaining about his bad back, and he looks like Murr off the Impractical Jokers. He plays very clumsy, very boring snooker but there’s something endearing about watching him have consistently poor performances but somehow win and knock out both Williams and Robertson. His match against Roberston today went on forever and it seemed like they’d go the distance, but Robertson lost pace of the game, made a few big errors and Hawkins capitalised.

Jack Lisowski seems to look like a favourite so far too, but I can’t take him seriously because every time I hear or read his name it makes me think of Mike Wizoswki from Monsters Inc. He plays an excellent game though and he has very fast frames compared to Hawkins who I think never made it past a 30 something break and had 50+ minute frames all week.

I’m predicting Higgins and Yu Wize to make it through their evening matches tonight. For me I can’t see Hawkins’ luck continuing and Lisowski could go the distance.

Incredible. And to do it in the Likang Roasted Eel Junma Cup is even better.

I've often taken umbrage when the maximum question pops up in quiz questions as 147 isn't the most you can score, so I'm pleased it's been done.
