Matthew Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Hate to be a naysayer but I saw nothing in Ricky in AEW, just a cosplayer, and nothing seems to have changed in WWE unfortunately. I’d love to be proven wrong, but also wouldn’t be surprised to see him on a releases list within 2yrs Quote

I’d love to be proven wrong, but also wouldn’t be surprised to see him on a releases list within 2yrs Yeah, I agree - I think his limitations were exposed when they tried to push him as a singles act. He was good in Team Taz, and I think his act could work to an extent as part of a tag team or stable, but as a singles wrestler he’s not quite good enough in ring to make up for his one dimensional promo work, and his mic work isn’t good enough to compensate for his limitations in ring. If he hadn’t been in AEW, I don’t think he’d have ever been used as a singles act, never mind NXT champion. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted May 2 Paid Members Posted May 2 Ricky Starks gets exposed the further up he goes. He looked like a star in NWA, less of a star in AEW, even less of a star on NXT and I don't see him being around for long unless something changes. Interesting as a comparison to LA Knight who seemed huge in NWA and then has continued to be a big star for WWE. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Knight is so much better than Ricky it's not even funny. Quote
NeverYield Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Yeah for me, Ricky Saints had absolutely no presence out there whatsoever, which is what that whole character is about, trying to give off the "Im a big deal" impression, clean cut look, attempts at charisma, but it was pure "crowd went mild" territory. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) You do wonder, with repeated instances of modern WWE fans en masse not giving the slightest shit about anything outside of the Raw/Smackdown orbit, why this company remains obsessed with insidery bollocks. Colt Cabana references? Disco Inferno? The third man? CM Punk's backstage reputation? Cool. But, lads, this lot don't even watch NXT on the regs, nevermind peruse the decades old Observer newsletters you need to keep up at times. I do love Cody's mate coming in and getting something resembling a rub, but still losing when Cody would be attacked seconds later. 'Oh hey, any chance Gunther could attack when the ref's back is turned and I sneak a win? It won't hurt Cody and I think it'll really help... no, okay. Whatever you say. Looking forward to joining the Danhausen Cinematic Universehausen in a few weeks.' Edited May 2 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted May 2 Paid Members Posted May 2 Saints is cosplay Rock in the same way that LA Shite is cosplay everyone from the Attitude era rolled into one but with the balance of Stephen Hawking. Saints will find his level, it will be midcard and he'll trade US titles with Ilja Dragunov and Carmello Hayes. Its a living. Quote

BarryOVega Posted May 3 Posted May 3 They should put Saints in a tag team with Shawn Spears, then sack them both Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted May 3 Paid Members Posted May 3 (edited) I rate Ricky Starks. Not too sure about Ricky Saints though. What an indictment that after a year in their Developmental System he felt less confident and less of a star. As someone who’s already criticised for being a Rock tribute act, this felt like a Ricky Starks tribute. A copy of a copy. A third generation VHS from Strong Style Tapes. You can barely make out what anyone originally saw in him. Don’t worry though! He delivered where it mattered most! It’ll have been high-fives and hugs in Gorilla! “I have stood in the background and congratulated you, milestone after the milestone, when it was a detriment to my career.” Although never explained on television, Ricky Saints and Cody Rhodes are friends in real life. Whilst employed by AEW, Ricky Saints was photographed and filmed at Royal Rumble 2023 and Wrestlemania 40, supporting Cody. Many believed this negatively affected his standing and usage in AEW, ultimately resulting in him being removed from television, and then released from contract. Meltzer, D. (2023, 2024). The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Have a day off, lads. The man was NXT World Champion and still got zero reaction for his Smackdown debut. Genuinely a quieter crowd response than when he debuted in AEW, during Covid, when the entirety of the crowd was Austin and Colton Gunn. Raw and Smackdown fans only watch Raw and Smackdown. Nobody has a fucking clue about any of this insider shit, and care even less! Edited May 3 by Supremo Quote

Paid Members Supremo Posted May 5 Paid Members Posted May 5 (edited) Was this the first time Gunther has posed with the proper WWE Title? He looked the business holding it. Strap him up! I’m happy they’re doing Cody vs. Gunther. It always felt like wasted potential when they didn’t capitalise on that brilliant visual of Cody crying over Cena’s trabs after Gunther retired him, but where the fuck is Randy Orton? Seems daft to have Randy kick Cody’s head out of his head in the main event of Wrestlemania, only for everyone to move on and pretend it never happened. You’d hope they’re either saving it for Summerslam, or are so embarrassed by the Pat McAfee thing that they want to immediately wipe it from everyone’s memory, but knowing what we now know? I’m half expecting it to come out that Randy Orton refused a salary reduction and will be headlining AEW All In against Will Ospreay. Real shades of the dark days on this show. Crap material miraculously being carried by wildly talented performers. Danhausen, Kit Wilson and Sami Zayn being given the worst WWE comedy, that would read like absolute shit on the page, yet somehow managing to bring some charm to it. I particularly liked Danhausen mooching around the arena quietly singing his own theme tune. I wish it was better and you had great performers working with great material, but this is what you get when you listen to the idiot fans. The morons on Twitter said, “we want Vince!” The morons in the writing room told ChatGPT, “they want Vince!” And so Vince is what we got. Edited May 5 by Supremo Quote
