Not only do I love this goal, but I love the fact that Gignac has shaken off all those suggestions that he was a stunt signing for Tigres and that he would be back in Europe after a year. Liga MX is a superb league and all the better for him being in it.

A few of the European Leagues have a different feel this season. Lazio went top of Serie A yesterday for the first time in ten years. Inter have been challenging Juve all season but Lazio haven't lost since September and have won 16 and only drawn two of their last 18 in the league. Think Juve have won 8 titles in a row so very interesting finish to the season in store. Funny thing is Lazio were dreadful in the Europa League and somehow lost to Celtic twice.

Bundesliga has the same old leaders in Bayern but RB Leipzig and Monchengladbach have led for a long time and only 6 points separate the top 4 which could become 4 points if Gladbach win their game in hand.

Galatasaray were miles behind in Tukey but have put together a brilliant winning run and have gone second. Trabzonspor are top with Sivasspor and Istanbul Basaksehir in the top 4 having both been top at times. The top 3 all have the same points (48). Istanbul Basaksehir are doing well in the Europa too. Topped their group ahead of Roma and Gladbach and remarkably knocked out sporting Lisbon after losing the first leg 3-1. They have a bunch of names you'll have heard of, Martin Skrtel, Gael Clichy, Eljero Elia, Demba Ba, Kerim Frei, Gokhan Inler and that Robinho fella. Have a French striker, Enzo Crivelli, knocking goals in and a Bosnian winger, Edin Visca, racking up assists.

Basaksehir went back top of the league last night. Now 1 point separating the top 4. Some league this season.

Great stuff. Tevez scoring the winning goal and Maradona there to see it too. When did they change their league/season to the more European format in Argentina?

In 2016/17. They started with 30 teams but have been reducing it a couple at a time each season since. It was supposed to make the league more attractive to watch because Argentinian league football, by and large, is very sterile and defensive. They wanted less repeating fixtures as well. It hasn't really worked although this last season was quite exciting by their standards.

Not sure if here or the C19 thread were appropriate, but tonight's Man City/Real Madrid fixture is off, and all La Liga and MLS fixtures are postponed for a minimum of 2 weeks.
