Nowadays it's a reality TV show and it's basically box-ticking most series now. Hardly any have any actual business acumen. Dragons Den is going the same way too - whoever has the best sob story gets the investment. Before it was about the invention or idea and whether it would make money. Now it's just handouts/ups rather than if the product is any good or not. Quote

While I do think the editing is more towards that these days, I do think they still invest in things they genuinely think they can make a success of. The more ridiculous the people are, the more attention it garners for them. So far he was proud as punch, he sold the most tour tickets out of his team. He sold them all for less than they were bought for. One was sold for £50 in a game of rock paper scissors (which he lost) Another girl who had bought a ticket for £100, saw the above commotion and then said it wasn't fair, as she paid £100. So to save the sale, they had to sell to her at £50. Sold another ticket by personally saying he would yodel on the tour, even though that was the other teams jobs to do and learn the information. So he had to switch teams on tour day. Carlo the upright sub team leader was a bit strange too. Selling e-bike tour tickets around the Austrian hills and he kept targeting pensioners. When they told him to stop, he went and had a 10 minute chat with a 90 year old. Quote
