I think it's to demonstrate that what went into the receptacle was indeed alcohol rather than apple juice and water etc. Had they been, the wet tissue wouldn't have caught on fire.

Yep, admitting to it was Tower 2. And all the stories after were the planes crashing into the Pentagon and Pittsburgh. Did they really happen?

I can't decide if my favourite thing is that someone else said they did it as well and it was totally glossed over and no-one can even remember their name, or that it morphed into Steve sitting backwards and that became the accepted truth (when obviously porcelain sitting is actually worse).

Yes, that's what he said. From memory that's what he thought the common trope of 'men leaving the seat up' was about, and it validated his method.
