Doomed anecdotal megathread #2

So knowing the stress and anxiety was already becoming an issue for me I made the decision to head back to my home for 12 months at least, grab any work I can related to my degree and experience while also looking to volunteer with some of the media and arts organisations here and save some money before making a decision in 12 months of just what I want from life hoping things are a little clearer.Ā

Having struggled for over a year even more with my mental health this is the wisest decision and I've been told so by everyone I know even those who wanted me to return to Bath. I should be able to get back on my course or a different one if I want to go part time next year to complete it so there's something. Just know if I gave 12 months of not worrying about bills, housing and stress I should be a lot more healthy mentally and physically.Ā

Super Bacon I truly hope things improve for you, you seem a top person and I really hope you get a break soon.Ā

Oh you fucking fraud with your shower and your bed. La-di-dah.Ā

I think you get a pass on this one. Give yourself a break!Ā

I know but I genuinely couldn't help thinking of all those people less fortunate.Ā

@Shy DadĀ thanks dude, right back at you. I've worked in recruitment for a long time and know people who specialise in media and the arts, so you need any advice, id be happy to help if I can.Ā

Right, I'm going to attempt an open Mic this evening for the first time. Or next week if I totally chicken out. I've always been a prettyĀ good song writer and most of my friends assumed I'd try and do music as a career. Then I went to uni, went mental a few times and got stuck doing an actual job. It's always been a skillĀ I've wanted to do something with and I've basically suppressed it for years because it's felt so painful that I have done nothing with it and not had the self confidence to do so. Wish me luckĀ

Indeed good luck. Once you start the first song you'll be fine mate. Open night crowds are usually pretty decent, especially if it's an established night, meaning they are there for a reason, rather than just locals.

Enjoy it man.

Good luck, Gus. I've not done musical open mics, but many comedy open mics. I've found that it's never as bad as you think it might be and is usually several times better. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Best of luck, man! There's no buzz like being able to get up and sing, especially when the songs are your own work. Go for it!

Thanks all. Unfortunately booked out this week, but in for next week! Gives me a bit of time to practice which is no bad thing considering I thought of doing this about 8 hours ago. Amped up for no reason, but oh well.

Will drag a few people down for next week to giveĀ moral support I think. Sounds dumb, but the fact I even turned up and tried to put my name down is a big deal for me.

Not dumb at all, I was in a touring band as a frontman for 7 years and every single gig hit me with nervous energy. As soon as you get going it all goes away, then as soon as you hear a clap you are filled with complete confidence.Ā

Ā

Edit:Ā below = well done @Gus Mears

Someone dropped out so I was second on and did alright! Piano perfect, vocals a bit trembly because of the nerves. Sat talking with a couple of people who thought the song was really.good. so happy. Roll on next week.

One of the people i spoke to was really keen to play guitar over the song I Did, so after a few weeks of doing my shit with just Piano, probably going to so that. Nice evening for sureĀ

I do hope the guitarist was Surf Nonce, the much ballyhooed UKFF supergroup still could happen.

I'm not knee-deep in women, so the offending guitarist could not have been Nonce Digby, sadly.
