An update from President and CEO of NJPW, Harold Meij

[CavemanLynn]

He looks like Farage crossed with the Orange Wednesdays guy.

NJPW is returning next week with the New Japan Cup as well as a special card the night before which will be announced at bell time.

Presumably empty venue shows? That's what the president of the company talked about last month.

Yeah empty venues to begin with and they’ve spoken about increasing attendance at a steady rate going forward

Yep, everything empty for the bulk of the tournament then Wrestling Dontaku in July is two nights in Osaka is the first with audience (one-third capacity), with the Cup final on night one and then the winner's title match v Naito on night two.

Looks like the tournament shows will be four cup matches and then one other match (likely a multi-man) so in an ideal world they'll be short shows but without needing to rush for time on the better matches.

Edit: FWIW, The NJPW Google Calendar has all the empty arena shows as two-hour slots.

Just watching the Live Show on NJPW World, here’s the commentary set up

There's something wonderfully life-affirming about seeing Liger, smiling, in a check shirt.

Can you point me in the right direction of aforementioned calendar?

Go to https://njpwworld.com/feature/schedule#, scroll to the calendar at the bottom of the page, and there's a button that adds it to your own Google Calendar:

There needs to be a gif of Tanahashi making fun of Taichi's post-lockdown stomach and trying to make it vanish by snapping his fingers.

Thanks @JNLister ?

The Pre show highlight was Ibushi and Tanahashi being told they need to social distance from each other during an interview by someone off screen whilst awkwardly taking a few steps back was hilarious

Ishii/Desperado was a good scrap. Would like Ishii to take the whole thing.
