DVDs and Films You Have Watched Recently 3 - The Final Insult

Just watched BlackKkKlansman and thought it was brilliant. Massive praise for Driver and Washington but also think Topher Grace was surprisingly great in it as well. I'm glad to see Spike Lee is back!

Fifty Shades of Grey - A film so bad I was actually angry with myself for sitting through. I knew it was supposed to be horrid but it's next level repulsive. Putting aside the HUGE problems I have with the abuse for entertainment narrative, it's just badly made too. I couldn't believe the inept music choices that just destroyed the flow of the movie and practically slapped the target audience in the face with patronising glee. The sex scenes are dull as dishwater. There's no heat, no tension and no excitement. Just saddness and depression. A horrible representation of BDSM, sex and relationships.

They don't get a lot better.  The virgin reveal always makes me laugh though.

Spoiler for the end of the series...

She changes him and they live happily ever after.

Haha. Needless to say I won't be watching any further.

E. L. James made it impossible for anyone to make something decent out of her shite books, because she had too much creative control over the film. It's why the sex scenes are so bloody dull and the dialogue is hilariously rubbish (lile her books).

Especially as you see virtually nothing of something for the ladies Jamie Dornan.  The sexiest 50 Shades film is "Book Club" where I don't think any of them aren't eligibile for a free bus pass.

I've always liked a bit of Peckinpah. The Wild Bunch is by far his most accessible film though. Straw Dogs is horrid but Dodgy Dustin puts in a cracking turn. Convoy was a bit of a childhood favourite. Ernest Borgnine *was great  in most things wasn't he.

*Assuming he is no more or at least retired.

Borgnine carked it 6 years ago unfortunately but yeah, always a joy to see him in anything.

Here he is getting battered by a one-armed Spencer Tracy in Bad Day at Black Rock, one of the greatest films of the 1950s and probably all time.

In preparation for The Predator later in the week I watched Predators for the first time.  Decent concept, although maybe not enough story time for everyone in the ensemble, and certainly a lot of mileage in the material.

For anyone also wanting to jump on the hype-train, Film4 are showing a double-bill of Predator and Predator 2 on Tuesday night,

Hang on. ITV have given up the licence to show Predator? Next they'll bin off Shaun of the Dead, and then what will ITV4 show?

Final Score.

Straight to DVD bollocks with Big Dave trying to show emotion with his face too often and Pierce Brosnan phoning it in, which is exactly what the plot deserved.  Great moment when

The Terrorists take over the Sky studio and shoot Tony Cottee live on air, shame it literally wasn't Redknapp but there you go

I bet it was a man who wrote it. Like the original "Emmanuelle" book.

I worked in TV with EL James when in fact, at that time, she was innocent little Erika Leonard. This would have been 2006/2008 ish. It was years latter I found out about her pen name.
