Dai Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 As someone whose musical tastes havent changed in 20 years, Ive been enjoying the new Cypress Hill album. Its fully on Youtube and Ive given it several plays already and am enjoying it. Straight from the 90s, which is a positive for me. Also have listened to Cappadonna's new one, Slow Motion, as well, and have been enjoying that one. Some highlights for me: One last Wu Tang related thing. Ive got Tidal Premium, went to play Raekwon's stuff, and theres a load of stuff missing from him, which is annoying. Only Built For Cuban Linx Pt 2, which is fantastic, is not on there. I assume its stuck in some sort of publishing issue rights hell, which is a shame. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 26, 2022 Paid Members Posted March 26, 2022 Is it a sample clearance thing? I always find it odd that the live version of Justice remix of NY Excuse is missing from A Cross The Universe on Spotify. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted March 26, 2022 Members Posted March 26, 2022 Yeah, it'll be a publishing/sample clearance issue. It's the reason why so much hip hop is missing from streaming services, although some of it gets pulled due to other reasons, such as Snoop pulling a load of Death Row off after he bought it recently. I haven't listened to a whole lot of new stuff recently, but do love the Fly Anakin-Frank album. Couple of things I've enjoyed over the last few weeks. This on Odd Future is brilliant and made me revisit some old stuff. Still mad. https://www.stereogum.com/2179391/odd-future-the-of-tape-vol-2-turns-10/reviews/the-anniversary/ This from @SonRaw (a really knowledgeable follow on Twitter) is spot on. https://www.passionweiss.com/2022/03/02/a-requiem-for-doom/ Speaking of DOOM, according to this from a Leeds football blog (yes really) he was living in the city at the time of his passing. A fascinating read. https://www.thesquareball.net/leeds-united/operation-doomsday/ And this on current rap beefs is great as well. Don't really know these two artists that well to be honest, but it sounds like a shit situation. https://www.complex.com/music/lil-durk-nba-youngboy-beef-essay/ Also, I recently found out that Rakim played the drums live on Juice (Know The Ledge) which is nice. lars85 Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Speaking of Wu Tang.. There's not a lot of new hip hop that makes me feel like a 13 year old again, but this makes me want to break out the fubu jacket and and baggy jeans. Really want one of those ghostface killah face masks too. Quote
Paid Members Jesse Posted March 27, 2022 Paid Members Posted March 27, 2022 I was at the Oslo last night to see Dessa on the last night of her IDES tour and it was amazing. I've been a fan of her stuff for years but seeing it live for the first time was electric. I took my long-suffering wife along and even she was blown away by her energy and charisma in person. Some of it might also be the high of my first gig since 2019 but that was one of the best nights of my life, she's an amazing artist. Quote
Merzbow Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 The new Denzel Curry track is hard, and with a beat by JPEGMAFIA. Quote

I saw Doomtree on their last tour over here in 2015 and there must have been about 25 people max there so they performed on the floor with us surrounding them. It was one of the best shows I've ever been to. I bought Dessa's book that night and got her to sign it. Hell of a show. Quote

The album is pretty great, and there's a superb interview with him here: https://pitchfork.com/features/moodboard/denzel-curry-melt-my-eyez-see-your-future-interview/ I cringed hard when he said "Run the jewels cause I kill a mic on any LP" on Ain't No Way though. Really looking forward to seeing him live at Reading Festival after hearing the album. Annoyingly jpegmafia is on the door before, but assuming he'll do some solo gigs around the festivals though. He's been touring this past week, I saw him on Wednesday with what may be the youngest and whitest crowd I've ever witnessed but it was great. But yeah if he does some more dates around then I'll probably go see him again. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted April 8, 2022 Members Posted April 8, 2022 New billy woods Aethiopes is absolutely wicked, the track with El-P and Breeze Brewin being the standout. I think billy might be the best rapper in the world at the moment. In other news, what the fuck is this? Quote
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted April 8, 2022 Author Moderators Posted April 8, 2022 They're desperate to not make any money off the album..? Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted April 18, 2022 Members Posted April 18, 2022 DJ Kay Slay has passed away, aged 55. I only ever knew of him as a mixtape DJ (Streetsweeper Vol 1 being the best), but he was a graf legend as well under the name of Dez, and I never knew that when this is referred to in Wildstyle, it was him.
