Three Identical Strangers

With thanks to @Magnum Milano for the heads up on this.

I thought this was pretty good and clearly if you don't know anything of the background of this story, which I didn't, it has an instant hook. While the story is fascinating and pretty amazing, I started to have problems with it in its second half, as it seemed to gloss over some of the more serious aspects of this story. Definitely worth a look though.

Voyeur

I watched this Netflix documentary last night. Supposed to be a doc about a bloke who bought a motel in the 60's and fitted all the rooms with ceiling vents. He then spent the next 40 years spying on the people in the rooms and writing down everything he saw in journals. Ends up being more about the relationship between him and journalist Gay Talese who is writing a book on him than the actual spying on people that he did.

The fact that Gay Talese is a cool motherfucker really saves this documentary because otherwise there's not much to it.

I saw Tell Me Who I Am too which I thought was great. The first two thirds was really interesting and the last third really turned and was bleak as fuck. Hell of a story though.

Wasn't this made into a very saucy film in the mid-90s and set in the mid-90s called "Slither" with Sharon Stone? UB40 were on the bloody soundtrack.

No. It was a story that was only revealed a couple of years ago, in a very weird but fascinating article. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/04/11/gay-talese-the-voyeurs-motel

Anyone familiar with the story of Gary and Jody Plauche? Jody, the son, was kidnapped and raped by a man called Jeff Doucet. He was caught and arrested and Jody’s father Gary shot the kidnapper dead as he was escorted by police through Baton Rouge airport in 1984. And it all happened live on the news.

Warning - graphic footage of a paedophile getting shot in the head...

Crazy.

I don’t know how well known this story is but I wasn’t aware of it at all. Anyone seen any good documentaries on this? I had a quick google and there’s an E:60 one that’s in parts on YouTube but I don’t know if it’s the full thing. Anything on Netflix?

Haven't seen that for years, i think it was one of the very first nasty things i saw when the internet was a baby on dial up 20 odd years ago but it was in grainy black and white footage over dial-up modem (Bud Dwyer video was the other one 🤢 that springs to mind).

Crazy fortunate how accurate the guy was that the police officer, cameraman and/or both didn't get accidentally shot or even seemingly covered in any blood and guts.

Saw this years ago but don't recall there being much in the way of documentaries or serialisation in the way some other cases have.

The Budd Dwyer thing is still shocking. Innocent of the bribe taking too. Imagine that getting shown on TV these days.
