The guy who promoted their final tour has recently been outed as a Trump donator/supporter, and has had a load of his festivals boycotted by artists in the US (Punk in the Park etc), so that may play a part in the financial queries?

Melvin should be a multi-millionaire even if he has made some poor decisions, so I’m sure he isn’t gonna be worrying about going large at McDs anytime soon, but I hope he gets/has gotten what he deserves.

It was the drummer that was the delivery driver during covid, and it wasn’t really due to financial needs.

Mogwai were excellent. Glimmers of 'best show ever' territory, but the songs where Braithwaite sings brought it down a few notches. Their instrumentals are where the juice is. There are a few heavy passages where you think if they brought in one of the new style avant garde black metal screamers, it wouldn't be at all out of place.

The Kreator show last night was fun. Kreator were superb. Carcass were good, but I think after 30 minutes i'd had enough. I'm not an Exodus fan but they seemed decent. Nails were a real let down for me, I love them on record but it didn't work here. I don't like single guitars in bands live generally (think it sounds too thin), and I found the lead singer (Andrew WK-alike) a bit irritating but I do wonder if they'd have been better in a small venue.

But, yeah, Kreator. What a fun show.

Ross ‘The Boss’ Friedman, founding member of The Dictators and Manowar, has passed away aged 72 due to ALS.

While Manowar have never been anywhere near as big as Joey DeMaio thinks they are and their “true metal” stylings is incredibly cringy , their early work featured some great tunes

I've not listened in a long time, but Hail to England was a belter of a record if I remember correctly.

I'm not a Manowar fan particularly, but I love the idea of those bands where they become more than music to their fans and it becomes about community and belonging to something. They built something special with Manowar, because if you love it you seem to really bloody love it.

I’ve no shame in admitting I’m a Manowar fan. I’m not into the whole “I’m a Warrior!” stuff that some fans do, it’s just about the music to me but each to their own.

Every album upto ‘Louder Than Hell’ is a solid effort. Ross had left by then and the band was very much Joey’s project and every song started to become about Norse Gods and Vahalla et al, but prior to that is a solid run of 6 albums involving Ross

Just booked tickets to go see this. Whilst both are playing Bloodstock 6 weeks earlier, it’s worked out really well as I’m only able to go to that for the Friday, which neither of them are playing.

Seen Priest a bunch of times but I never got the chance to see Nevermore back in the day, and the new singer seems to be as close to being Warrel Dane as you can get

Yeah, that's a shame but probably the wrong band for that size of venue, and likely suffered from support act sound. I saw them headline a small-ish venue in Bristol last Thursday and they were tremendous, no thin sound in there.

Did you see they played a secret show with Carcass at the Underworld on Monday? Bet that was great.

Muse at Brixton Academy last night.

Say what you want about a lot of the shite they've put out over the years - I tend to agree - but when they're good they're fucking great, especially live.

I've seen them at Roundhouse, Royal Albert Hall, The o2, Wembley.. you name it. So I'll only see them if theyre doing something unique/special now especially with ticket prices being what they are.

About as perfect as a 2026 Muse gig could be. A wonderful opportunity that I really never thought I'd get again and it'll stick with me. 

Great crowd. Lovely people in the queue from 20+ gigs to teens going to their first ever gigs. 

If that's the last time I ever see them live then I'll take it.

To feel alive for a few hours again was a beautiful thing. Music is wonderful.

Yeah I saw that, the biggest get of the entire festival for me. I saw they released a new song a few months back too.

 

 

[Accident Prone]

I'm selling my 2000 Trees ticket this year due to royally fucking up my back and thus not being able to camp (must be absolutely honest and say that the line-up being a tad underwhelming, especially after Thursday pulled out, made it an easier decision). I'm putting the money towards a more decent hotel for Deftones at Vic Park, as I did have one of those cheap Olympic box hotel rooms but now I'm going to spring for one of those Yotel apartment gimmicks and get there a day early so I'm in no rush.

I would've loved to do ATG to catch Primus and Cult Of Luna+Julie Christmas, but as that clashes with the same weekend as Deftones, I'd like to try Damnation out this year to catch CoL but I'm not overly familiar with everything else on the bill so I'll have to dive into those bands before I mage a decision. Does anyone have any recommendations, regardless of genre? (Line-up below lacks Berserker, who I'm also unfamiliar with):

Satyricon are tonnes of fun and a great live band. Sometimes referred to as “the AC/DC of Black Metal”, they tend to have more of a groove to them than other corpsepaint clad BM bands. 
Carcass are great and have always been great, don’t miss them.

Wolves in the Throne Room, Pelican and Møl would be my other main picks from the top acts.

Igorrr I tend to find is a bit hit & miss depending on what set he decides to go with on the night. Theres a lot going on and if he gets the balance right he can be really good.

Triptykon is Tom G Warrior formally of Celtic Frost. This seems to be them playing their original material rather than a “performs Celtic Frost” set, which is fine but nothing outstanding.

Worm (the near illegible logo third row from bottom on the far left) received a lot of praise for their most recent album but it didn’t click with me (far too long and few new ideas). 
Lamp of Murmuur (the even more illegible logo, third from bottom, second from right) could be a sleeper hit and don’t tend to come over here unless they’re playing a festival like this.

Further down the bill you’ve got reformations of Gorerotted and Medulla Nocte which will be well attended by people who saw them back in the day.
Hundred Year Old Man are very good, Dodsrit are worth checking out.
