d-d-d-dAz Posted June 19 Posted June 19 A good week for death metal. I saw Death to All last night, and they were absolutely incredible. Right up there with Blood Incantation, and if they had synths i'd say maybe even better. I was wary, as I don't love metals current obsession with souped up tribute acts (a Bathory one headlined Incineration festival, a Hellhammer one is headlining Cosmic Void), but the band were so tight and the material so strong it didn't matter. The lad doing the Chuck impression was superb. They played for 2h15 minutes which is way above what i'd usually tolerate, but it was excellent throughout. Quote

They have a lot of intricate, high-end lead work - without a second guitar looking after the mid-range, the minute the guitarist went up the fretboard the sound just thinned out too much for me. Still, infectious energy and seem like nice chaps. Sceptical hippo eyes with the encore. They've spoken before about how they used to have a second guitar player who had a completely different style which the remaining guy can't mimic; i'm fairly sure he was miming one of the songs in the encore, as his tone changed completely, and he missed a few notes and chords where the guitar was definitely still audible. They didn't use TOO much tape, but they did do something very professional and impressive for a young band. One song, a ballad, starts with symphonic bumph, which is all on tape... before the song started the singer wandered into the crowd and asked everyone to illuminate him with their phone torches - helpfully meaning no one was looking at the stage whilst the musicians scratched their arse as the mp3 played. Paid Members BomberPat Posted June 22 Paid Members Posted June 22 saw Devo and The B-52s on Saturday! Lene Lovich was first support and we missed her, but saw The Rezillos. I'm not a big fan in the first place, and didn't think much of them - they clearly had a ton of technical problems, so I don't want to hold it too much against them, but they did nothing for me. It's a co-headline tour, and we got Devo first and the B-52s second. I was a lot more excited about Devo, and they were phenomenal. An absolutely incredible live show, amazing band, incredible energy, everything I could have hoped for. I hope I'm as cool as Mark Mothersbaugh when I'm 76. The B-52s, outside of the hits, had a real air of "pub band" about them - they were perfectly competent, but very low energy at times; I thought there would be a lot more effort into making them a big party band with all the bells and whistles, but Devo blew them out of the water on that front. Still, got to hear Love Shack live, so that's fun. Quote

Can't share the poster for some reason but seeing our logo on there is a definite bucket list moment for us. Had to keep shtum for way too long about this.
