deathrey Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 The bench has actually been there for years but was obviously a bit of an attraction for the weekend. I didn't pop in to the city centre on the weekend but it was impossible to miss the buzz throughout the city on the whole (though I live just outside). It was really lovely Quote
wordsfromlee Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 They played ‘Paranoid’ by Black Sabbath on Radio 2 this afternoon and the thick twat who was hosting said “it still sounds as fresh as when it was released 30, maybe even 40 years ago”. Even if you aren’t into metal, surely you know it wasn’t released in 1995! Thankfully he said he got plenty of grief on the texts after that one. Quote

If you don't, I would recommend having a quick look. He's done an amazing mural of Sabbath on the bridge at Navigation Street just outside New Street station this weekend and Ozzy and the band went down to sign it. I'm not even a Sabbath fan but it made me a little emotional His posts kept cropping up on my Facebook and Instagram in the lead-up to the gig. That mural was absolutely fantastic. I’m glad the band visited and gave him the recognition he deserved. Also, in relation to time moving on and getting old, I worked out on Friday that it’s 28 years since I saw the Stereophonics for the first time. I showed my friend a picture of me with them backstage (including Stuart Cable) and she couldn’t believe how much Kelly looks exactly the same. She didn’t say that about me though… ? Quote

Cousin Jim Bob Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 (edited) The Black Sabbath gig raised £140 million for local charities. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg6d616n5jo Quote All profits will be equally split between Birmingham Children's Hospital, Cure Parkinson's, and Midlands-based Acorns Children's Hospice. wordsfromlee Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 The Pig Pen album came out the other week and it’s good fun. The band features Matty Matheson who stars in the TV show The Bear, Wade MacNeil from Alexisonfire and Daniel Romano who used to be in Attack In Black. Quote

Paid Members Egg Shen Posted July 12, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted July 12, 2025 Amazing! That's pre-Word Gets Around, the show I saw was in Cardiff University, it was a bit of a one off end of year celebration show for the success they got off the back of the record. Wasn't long after that they proper blew up in Wales. Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted August 3, 2025 Posted August 3, 2025 First 35 acts announced for Wacken 2026 Decent first batch, but the standout is the return of Nevermore. No idea who they’ll have in place to fill the gaps, but Van Williams and Jeff Loomis back together has got me contemplating a trip to Germany next year Quote
lanky316 Posted August 3, 2025 Posted August 3, 2025 Overall, not a bad starting point there, a few bands that I'll definitely take the opportunity to check out on stream next year. I'm curious to see how Broken by the Scream go down as well. More growls and stuff but similar type of deal to Babymetal as you have the song and dance routines and (sometimes) the backing band there. Overall though, most of the bands I know - aside from Def Leppard - I will enjoy and there's always some pleasant surprises. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 4, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted August 4, 2025 Its got to the point now where there's so much stuff on these festivals it just feels like 'every band ever' each time I see a poster. Quote
wordsfromlee Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 Some of those band names brought on a hell of a wave of nostalgia. Quote
