Merzbow
I watched a couple of German shows on Netflix, Perfume and Dark. Perfume is all style over substance, being an edgy little shit for the sake of it. There's some great ideas in there but they're never fully realised, and they could have gone so much deeper with the whole perfume idea. Dark is bloody awesome but I'd rather not give too much away about it, it's one of the best science fiction thrillers I've seen. It even manages to do 80's nostalgia in a way that doesn't feel like you're being beaten over the head with a boombox.

Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted January 31, 2019 Moderators Share Posted January 31, 2019 I've also been enjoying Sex Education as others on here have mentioned. Binged through several episodes when I was off sick. Eric is basically Skeeter from the cartoon Doug.
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted February 1, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted February 1, 2019 Has anybody had a watch of that Russian Doll thing on Netflix? It looks interesting. Might give it a look when I've got this series of The Good Place finished.

I was exceptionally put off by the curly haired lass from American Pie doing her best attempt at an impression of Joan Rivers throughout. And they clearly spent half the budget on cigarettes. Premise is decent, but is rushed to a conclusion. Edited February 4, 2019 by Teedy Kay
Factotum
Natasha Lyonne is a very good actor and she's extremely watchable in this, but it makes the error of going too 'oh look she's so flawed!!! she smokes and says fuck!!' But yeah it has some very good moments in it.
SuperBacon
I’m torn on this. I wanted to turn it off after about 2 minutes. Everything was irritating. Lyonne is good when she’s actually acting, and not when she’s channeling, as TeedyKay rightly points out a cross between Joan Rivers and the hammiest “Ooooooh!!!!! I’m focking walkin here!!!!” New Yoiker Having said that, there’s enough here to see me through to the end. Not exactly a huge series is it. And I like her friends. Merzbow
Remember that film Hanna? Well there's a TV adaptation on Amazon, they've uploaded just one episode as a sneak peek, the rest is out in March. Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted February 11, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted February 11, 2019 MacGruber, one of the great underrated films of our time might be coming back as a TV show. http://www.darkhorizons.com/a-macgruber-tv-series-is-in-the-works/
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 11, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 11, 2019 (edited) Terrible, terrible film. I like everyone involved in making it but it sucked. Edited February 11, 2019 by Chest Rockwell
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted February 12, 2019 Awards Moderator Share Posted February 12, 2019 We finished The Office last week so have been in need of something new to watch in the evenings... the choice was Riverdale. I’m quite enjoying it so far. It’s a bit like The OC for people who are too young to have seen The OC.
Merzbow
Get ready for a little more raunch, it never really leaves PG status but they do add a little spice. I only started watching it for the Twin Peaks references and boy there's a lot of them in the first season but I've really eeded up enjoying the show. Factotum
Quote It’s a bit like The OC for people who are too young to have seen The OC. Ah this brings back memories. I bloody loved the first season of The OC. My love for Jilly Cooper has never faded
Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted February 13, 2019 Awards Moderator Share Posted February 13, 2019 Catastrophe finished for good this week, and I'm going to really miss it. No spoilers but it ended in a really satisfying way. I boxsetted the whole thing again this month and the writing is so damn good. Sharp like a blade and just as cutting. Some of Rob's putdowns are so well crafted I stash them away. Just so one day I can quote to some dribbling homeopath "I saw a guy on the tube with no legs. I prescribed him some doodley-doo and BAM his legs grew right back." It's that smiley American delivery that nails it. And then there's Chris. SuperBacon
Sharon Horgan is the sexiest woman on TV. I loved the ending and think the writing throughout is top notch. yes, it’s all very middle class London centric, but the dialogue rings true for most relationships. Not everything is always roses.
