I completely buy he's a knackered old warhorse fighting not just his opponent, but time itself, to prove he's still the best and make up for all that lost time. The man is obviously an eejit, and has completely changed personality (and hairspray provider) in the last 3 years but, fuck it, i'm totally in. I really enjoyed that match, and thought they performed heroics in getting what they did from the crowd, given there was zero jeopardy. Mad there is only like 2 or 3 years difference between Balor and Punk. Danhausen. Lol. Poor bloke. Like Ryan Murphy was tasked with directing Misfits the Musical, with his only brief being to make The Misfits look like the biggest dickheads in the world. I thought the quality of wrestling across the show was very poor elsewhere. The men's chamber was a giant mess. Jeveon Evans trying to Copeland his ankles with the worst splash of all time before being eliminated, then Orton deciding to comedy bump for LA Knight who then fell over just before being eliminated was the real nadir. But, just bad all the way through. Women's Chamber was better, with the right winner. Rhea v Jade Cargill is at least on paper a huge match. Shit show, really. Quote
Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted March 1 Paid Members Posted March 1 Look I like Danhausen, hes a bit funny, he'll market well in T Shirt sales as long as its not very nice, god awful, he does good press appearances and he knows his limits ring wise. But he could have cursed someone and that be it, it would have done good reels, social numbers would be up, a good sound bite or two. Potentially even given Finn and JD something to do at Mania if Truth (thinking he was tagging with Asuka or Sting) did most the leg work in the match as his saved partner. Jobs a good un. Instead, they made it look so second rate. The dancers were all out of time (someone I saw online on YouTube asked how many years until at least 1 of them is an NXT champion and that would be an interesting bit of trivia in time), the pyro I assume was supposed to be intentionally wank but it went so meta at being extra wank and Cole and Barrett literally said 1 line each without even getting the sound bites of his catchphrases. They just seemed confused. Production wise it was a complete shambles made by guys who wonder why most the comedy they enjoyed in the 70s and 80s isn't broadcastable today. They can redeem it, but it'll take a ton of work and not throwing him down everyone's throats. Quote

The camera work particularly in the Women’s chamber felt really off too. Whoever that new ring announcer is was awful all night. Announcing Je’Von Evans as Je’Von Williams and the emphasis he’d use on names was really strange. Rhea vs Jade at least feels like a big deal. I’m not sure where they go with McIntyre/Rhodes/Orton. Fatu has been involved in the story too and Sami Zayn. Aleister Black has also been somewhat feuding with Orton. Big multi man match looms. Gutted that Rollins is back. Him vs Logan again at Mania really isn’t an exciting prospect. Quote

Womens Chamber Match was fine, the result always felt inevitable. Becky/AJ felt pretty flat. Punk v Balor was again fine but someone mentioned earlier Punk is so fucking slow these days, a one on one between him and Reigns at Mania has the potential to be an absolute snoozer. We all predicted it was going to be Danhausen in the box so I can’t say I’m underwhelmed by it. It’s not Gooker levels of disappointment, the little poot of pyro from the box tells you this is a bit of light comedy relief, and to honest if he has got himself a deal where he can make a tonne of money doing daft backstage stuff and not taking many bumps, fair play to him. He really does have that Bret Hart quality to me of just feeling grounded and satisfying to watch - even in a fairly basic match - because there's just a crazy legitimacy to it of a guy who takes enormous pride in getting in there and getting the work done, playing somebody whose character is also to take enormous pride in getting in there and getting the work done. It fucking rules. Maybe 'old school' is a bit of an eye roll nowadays but I think Punk's doing a good job of it and - regardless of what you might think of anyone involved - the fact that most of the old grizzly vets seem to genuinely consider him a respected peer suggests to me he's succeeded massively at it. Complete antidote to some of the other cosplayers hanging around with their fan-with-the-cheat-codes vibes. Quote

Is he meant to be a deluded guy who thinks he can hypnotise people? If so, what was with the teeth he gave Michael Cole?
