Paid Members air_raid Posted March 1 Paid Members Posted March 1 Nope, didn’t have Cody vs Orton for THE title at a Mania on my bingo card. At least we know Punk vs Reigns really is THE MAIN EVENT. Quote

Could genuinely be this generations Gooker unless they have something unexpected to follow up with. My bet is he's reduced to backstage comedy skits with R-Truth within a month. I mean, regardless of how his debut went, Danhausen is a comedy character, so this wouldn’t exactly be a failure - it’s exactly what he’s designed to be. That’s the kind of thing he will be doing, should be doing and was signed for. The mistake they made was assuming people knew who he was, which they clearly didn’t. But there was more in the way of silence than there was booing, although that was there for sure. It’s far from unsalvageable. Quote
The Gaffer Posted March 1 Posted March 1 (edited) Watched the Danhausen thing out of curiosity. It didn't strike me as that bad in isolation though it did feel like the closest WWE have ever gotten to full on wrestling-in-a-nightclub vibes. Isn't it quite obvious he's been brought in for goofy comedy spots, social media engagement etc. I don't think that's a destined for failure setup, more what all parties probably knew when he signed on the dotted line for a fairly easy gig with comfortable money and exposure? Edit: Twoster worded it better when I was still sipping my morning coffee. Edited March 1 by The Gaffer Quote
Chili Posted March 1 Posted March 1 (edited) Very nice, very disappointing for the fans. I'm most shocked he didn't get attacked after by a masked man. I'm not comparing him to the Gooker because he's obviously got more going than that, but it's got a similar feeling hasn't it. Anyway yeah, he's there for comedy. Edited March 1 by Chili Quote
NeverYield Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Had intentions to stay up and watch the chamber last night but sleep started to get the better of me and rather than fighting it, I let it beat me and I'm glad I did because all the YT videos i've seen of the Chamber looked an underwhelming mess and all that for fucking Danhausen, come on. Brief upshoot in quality week by week and WWE are quickly back to shit. Quote

I rate Danhausen. He’s a great lower-card comedy TV character. However, it’s the least surprising thing of all time that WWE would fundamentally misunderstand him, overhyping and overproducing his debut to boos. He’s a creepy little weirdo who should be hiding in bins backstage. The fun is in him not being in on the joke. The whole thing falls apart when he gets the big entrance, with his own pyro and dancers. Yet again, it’s another example of every act having to go through the same brain worms of six oddball, stuck-in-the-bubble pensioners in the writing room. They only ever have one flavour of comedy and one way to present characters. Everything must be boiled down to one note. All comedy characters love to have fun. All comedy characters must have their own version of the Funkadactyls or Funkettes. ‘I’ve cracked it! We’ll call them the Danhausettes!” Fair play to Danhausen himself. I hope he makes a fortune. But it’s not going to work. They don’t have it in them. As a company, they’re painfully unfunny. Their funniest stuff almost always comes from them embarrassing themselves on a meta level. For instance, I see Hunter has bottled it and now no longer wants to do a post-show panel in front of crowds, instead getting interviewed backstage. First he got rid of the reporters. Then he got rid of the fans. Hilarious work from the King of Kings. “These pesky outsiders keep getting in the way of me explaining how brilliant I am!” I look forward to the inevitable video he’ll release on Twitter, where he bestows his wisdom on Danhausen, rehearsing the entrance and teaching him how to point his index finger to curse everyone. DavidB6937 Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Random thoughts: Definitely agree that Danhausen's debut would've worked far better as a surprise. If you don't set expectations then people cant be disappointed. Problem is when people are expecting Jericho or not really aware of who Danhausen is. That situation is easily fixed by just not setting it up that way. It's not a Danhausen problem per se. AJ Lee was a pretty decent wrestler in her time, although even she was more over for being character based. Unfortunately it has moved on a lot and kinda exposes her. I don't think it's just ring rust. Rhea winning wasnt a surprise. There's still no one on her level. It was their biggest and best option. Punk/Balor was there. Just filler. I don't mind Randy winning. It's not like he's constantly getting title matches or anything. Him and Cody would be a good shout if they went in that direction but would they really pull Drew out of the title picture again? A four way with Jacob seems more likely unless they just want more matches. Any idea of someone like Trick winning was never going to happen after the direction Jey went. We're done. Now to see what they scramble together for Mania. Quote

SaitoRyo Posted March 1 Posted March 1 CM Punk needs to sort his gear out. His trunks were a mess and his undies were showing by the end of that match, while one of his kickpad covers was halfway down his shin. It's not the first time he's looked like a slob because of ill-fitting gear (was the same in last year's WrestleMania main event). And it really does make him look shit, not like he's been through some epic battle or anything. Just a mess. Quote

The King of Old School Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I'm guessing they will go with either Cody/Orton for the title, and Jacob/Drew in a singles match or they find a way to have a big 4/5 way title match at Mania with those 4 and possibly Sami involved. Quote
