But it fucking did. @The Gaffer mentioned recency bias and I’m very conscious of that and I’ll need to watch this again but that might have been the greatest match I’ve ever seen. I was so invested throughout and the final moments were magical. My only complaint is that I’d like to have seen more of Ospreay’s celebration after, but that’s a minor one. I loved that match so much. Willow/Mercedes was also fantastic and honestly, I think that was the right result. There’s going to be so much emotion in seeing Willow get back to the top, and a rematch when Willow’s hand has fully healed should be even better. You don’t want to lose the momentum Willow has built up, but I don’t think you have to. I’d like to see both Ospreay and Mercedes get lengthy title reigns now; they’re two of the best wrestlers on the planet right now and what ambassadors to have for your company. Outside of that, the only match I didn’t really like was the women’s tag title match. The Brawling Birds just didn’t feel like the right team to unseat Divine Dominion, and the crowd didn’t seem to care much that they did. Everything else though? Just brilliant. Show of the year, hands down. If something tops that, my brain might actually explode while I’m watching it. Dynasty being in Liverpool suggests what seemed likely, All In will take place elsewhere next year. I know it’s bringing it forward somewhat, but I’d love to see Tony Khan take a big swing and run it while Wrestlemania takes place in Saudi Arabia. Maybe we need a few years before it comes back to Wembley. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. Quote

Amazing match aside, people dont want to boo Omega, MJF had the natural story and dickhead heel, could've had an extremely similar match and the classic baby face overcoming the actual dastardly heel rather than the 4 week heel Omega, that will be back to being a baby face on Wednesday. I think I agree, this was never going to be their best match given Kenny's current condition, it was still a cracker though. However Ospreay v MJF could have topped their previous and brought some real heel heat. Then you could have Omega as the first big challenge for Will to overcome down the road. Tricky though, both equally big marquee matches. Maybe they need a behind the scenes Netflix show to explain their decisions😉 Quote
The King Of Swing Posted August 30 Posted August 30 9/10 show. Everything ranged from decent to great and a half full Wembley Stadium, still looked great. Couple of small moans. They could have easily shaved a minute off of a few matches, to give Osprey's celebration a bit longer before going off air. Showing the "Mercedes Title celebration" graphic so quickly really took me out of the moment. Quote

DavidB6937 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 While I did want MJF to have something bigger on the show itself, I don't see how anyone can watch that main event and believe he would've been a better opponent for Ospreay in that moment. The entrances. The history. The health journey of both guys. Absolutely everything added up to an absolute classic. Have they both had better in-ring performances? Sure, but it wasn't just about that. It was far beyond that in fact and I don't think MJF as an opponent would've hit the right emotional spot that Omega standing across the ring got. Quote

A few scattered thoughts *The pre-show was really enjoyable, did not expect a Britt Baker return! *Trios match a lot of fun, though it felt like they blasted through a load of teams entering in quite short order then had to wait ages for Swerve and New Level (which was an expected but great moment and the new name caught on pretty sharpish). Loved the roulette spins for each new team. Loved seeing a Kofi escape live. *Moxley vs Nigel was my wee break match and I wasn’t that fussed, but I got back quite quickly and found myself totally sucked in. I was audibly shouting “come on Nigel!” by the end. Great work by both. *Okada was a fantastic dickhead in the triple threat. *Very happy to have seen Mistico in the Gauntlet, even if it was spoiled by Justin Roberts announcing his name for Komander! *Tag title match was Mrs HG’s favourite other than the Ospreay match. The Christian Cage effect. Tag division looks like it’ll be getting some good focus in the next few months. *Very, very sad to see Willow lose. Mercedes is fantastic and looks like they’ll be heading to her vs Thekla which will be ace, but Willow 😔 *Sting! *Main event was outstanding, as many have already said. What a moment when Will won. He should be a great champion and hopefully keep it for ages. We scarpered pretty quickly after that to avoid the rush, did we miss anything or just a celebration? *The people around us were… okay actually! The guy in front didn’t seem to want to sit down until after everyone else already had, and the two behind us were obnoxious but were definitely enjoying the show so could have been a lot worse. An excellent time was had. A fantastic experience, and huge shows like this are by far my favourite live wrestling. Hope they do another - I don’t know why they wouldn’t! "I think Sky Blue will eat the pin here" and "hopefully they'll strap a rocket to him" about someone or other were the two I can remember, but it was CONSTANT. He loudly shouted "urgh women's match now? Piss break already?" before the women's tag and promptly went to the bog. Also going "lucha" in a Mexican accent whenever someone did a vaguely lucha spot. A true twat. Enjoyed the experience, other than him though. I post more thoughts later, maybe. Quote
