Might not be his best "work rate" match but it was the best display of character he's ever had in the middle of the ring, a brutal fucking bully with many of the best strikes I've seen since the UWF-i. This is how I think of it too. It's the same as printing up Super Bowl champions t-shirts for both teams so they're ready as soon as the game finishes. Overall, I had a lovely time today. Didn't regret going solo one bit, posh padded seats in 144 were just about perfect and a fairly decent crowd around me. Couple that worried me slightly when they were making their 3rd beer run before the pre-show was done, but they turned out be sleepy drunks and were pretty subdued after that 3rd beer went down! Absolutely steaming drink by about 6:30 and will likely not remember much of the day. Had a feeling that the Trios Royale thingy would bleed into the main show. I know it’s probably me being pedantic, but when they started to say about how they were 30 seconds (or so) from going live, everyone just stopped wrestling. Not standing off from eachother selling, just completely stopped. Come on lads, keep working. Justin Robert’s announcing Komander as Mistico, when Komander’s name is on the several massive video screens, when Komander’s music is playing, when Komander is making his way to the ring! Fucking amateur. Was hoping for more surprises in the Casino Gauntlet in general, but Jericho got roundly booed in our section so that’s a make good I suppose. Felt like a kid again when the lights out for Sting. I’m 41 for gods sake and I popped like I did watching things for the first time in 1991. But yeah, great time had, and might consider making the trip for Dynasty in Liverpool next February Quote
Paid Members Chris B Posted August 30 Paid Members Posted August 30 Extra bonus - we weren't far from Mox's entrance point, and the buzz as security and camera people were around was tangible and really exciting. Extra issue - the fucking lights above the screen. We got chatting to a guy at the bus stop, and he was on the other side of the arena, and when we mentioned where we roughly were, he said "oh, you guys had the lights all night - we could see it, it was so weird." I know they were restricted view tickets (the hard cam set blocked off the entrance of the stage), but they seemed to be trying to restricted them further. Quote

Had some great people around us in 211 although 6 walked out when Ospreay kicked out the One Winged Angel giving it all the 'this is all bollocks' sort of attitude. One thing that I notice more than anything is how much you miss the commentary during matches. Im far from being a knowledgeable fan, but not knowing who had come out with Ospreay and asking people around us for the answers would easily have been solved by the commentary team. Mind you I did read one line from Tazz when Komander and Mistico squared off 'This is Justin Roberts dream match'. Only other minor complaints were that I'd have liked there to be announcements of who was eliminated in the trios match and also give all the casino gauntlet entrants their music as it seemed a bit strange suddenly seeing someone appear and then announced and no countdown or music. Loved the show overall though Quote
abucalves Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I know Will Opsreay has his detractors, and I definitely get it. But seeing my 5 year olds face lit up when he came out is something I will never forget. Great show that will be forever tied in with it being my 2 daughter's first show (not bad, mine was EWW Castled in Oxfordshire). Another highlight was Mistico coming. Being half Spanish, I should be teaching them more Spanish, but them knowing the words to Me Muero is lovely. Surprise Bryan Danielson entrance was great, the anticipation for New Level was very exciting, was happy to have a Sting appearance so my wife could say she's seen Sting live. Quote

However, allow Bryan Danielson the chance to push Nigel McGuinness around in a wheelchair, laughing his head off, crashing into things? The man will cross the Atlantic! Look how happy he is! Winning the World Title from Swerve now his second favourite Wembley moment! Fantastic show. Incredible main event. I’ll probably write more tomorrow but pro-wrestling is just absolutely fucking class, isn’t it? I live twenty minutes from Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena. AnotherCrapUsername Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Sat in section 230 with my son who absolutely loved the show as a whole. Had a chao dat next to me who was an absolute pleasure and a real gent. Not sure if he's on here (I would guess so) if he is then it was great to chat with you and thanks for giving Bret a fistbump on the way out! Only match I would have taken off the show would have been the woman's tag team title match, just didn't seem to get going. For all the criticism AEW gets for overly long shows, this one absolutely flew by live and that includes the preshow. Quote

I'm really, really pleased they are running a smaller venue next time by the sounds of it. Main event definitely the best match I’ve seen live and the pre match walk out and entrance is up there with the best ever. Goosebumps. Thought all the card really delivered other than the women’s tag although that was put in a tough spot following the New Level’s debut. Will definitely be trying for tickets for Dynasty next year. As someone who watched at home the facts definitely help in certain situations but honestly I found the commentary fairly poor overall throughout the night. A lot of dead air. Just something about it didn't feel as energised as you'd expect that night to be. Don't get me wrong it wasn't unwatchable or anything but something just felt missing. I thought the commentary was fine, but it's a heck of a long time for anyone to be on the desk - Excalibur was there right from the start of the pre-show, I'm amazed his bladder didn't explode. I think they'd be better off having more of a split for the show just to keep everyone fresh and energised - even if it's something as simple as going with a different team (the ROH crew?) for the pre-show. Given that Mick Foley is around quite a lot at the moment, I'm pretty surprised that he's not been on the announce desk yet. He was really good at that during his time on Smackdown in the late 2000s, and I imagine he'd bring something new to the table here. Quote
