For all the grief wrestling and wrestlers can give us, when it's done well it still makes me feel like a 4 year old watching it for the first time all over again. JGPuk84 Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I was in 213 - and generally it was a good experience going solo for the 3rd time (including forbidden door). I had a dad and a couple of kids winding each other up, and a couple of other families, so pretty good. I’ll be honest - I’m someone who enjoys getting into it (shouting, chanting etc…) so I was probably the one annoying everyone else. Minor complaints- I was right at the back of my section and the screens were pretty small, so it was difficult to see some of the shots from the hard cam early on. Other things - I liked the non black commemorative T-shirts this year. Got the blue one. I’m excited for Persephone as TBS champion. I’m not a Britt Baker fan, but was exciting to see her back. The casual dad who didn’t really know the wrestlers was impressed by Komander. He’s also one of the lower card guys I love to see pop up, so this warmed my heart. I thought Nigel vs Moxley was a masterclass. I was completely into it and as others have said was shouting for Nigel by the end. My section wasn’t really into Willow - but add me to the people gutted she lost. I hope they run a full on No DQ match in the future (has Mercedes done many of those?) I can’t add more about the main event. I need to watch the entrance back as I missed most of it chanting. I’m glad they didn’t do the kick out at One for the One Winged Angel, as it added to it. The stunned look on the guy next to me was great. The last 5mins though were amazing, I’m not sure how you top it, but I’m excited to see what Osprey can do to try. Quote

The women's roster has evolved significantly since she last appeared - unless she's improved significantly I'm not even sure there's value in having her wrestle. She's the only wrestler in AEW who has had a bad match with Mercedes Mone, which is pretty remarkable. Having said that, perhaps she was checked out at that point and not really trying. Andrade winning the Casino Gauntlet was a really smart move - the two of them can have a spectacular match; what a way that would be to start off his reign. One other thing this show made me think - I wonder how close we are to a version of AEW without The Bucks and Kenny? I love all three of them, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them wrap up their in ring careers by the end of this decade, if not sooner than that. Quote
Doog Posted August 31 Posted August 31 (edited) The pacing of this show was really good live too, usually at home even im a little bit fatigued but this went really quick - did miss most the pre show up to the trios match starting mind. Been to a lot of WWE shows and I know its kinda obvious, but it really is noticeable how less kids there were at this one, in my section I think I saw about 4. Everyone around late 30s/early 40s it seemed. No real weirdos around me, so the weirdo wss probably me, switched to Block 101 in the summer sale and was a cracking seat. Felt like everyone was into everything which made a good atmosphere all night. Finally, the freaks camped outside the Hilton all weekend really need to have a word like, was embarrasing, I was up at 7am on Sunday and there were people there then! Due to work I've quite a lot of points so stayed there for the price of a normal hotel, the convinienxe to wander straight there after the show was great, so it was quite fun seeing them all disappointed every time I came wandering out, saw someone literally chase Richochet down the road filming him. Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted August 31 Awards Moderator Posted August 31 (edited) A very good show and not plagued by the things that usually bother me about AEW booking (repetition of spots throughout a show, poor pacing). I was on the floor in ZA, which was pretty poor for viewing - no visibility of entrances, some sight of the Ring but better to watch the screens, plus getting rained on three times! - though the atmosphere was good. My immediate neighbours were sound, but the guys in front smoking weed unadmonished by stewards despite them telling people off for standing up did their best to ruin the mood. I did manage to rush forward at the very end to be a few metres from the front row at Will's celebration. Actual show content was good to great. The triple threat exceeded my expectations and would've been match of the night had the main event not delivered, which it did in spades. I worried Omega and Ospreay would play finisher spam and endless kick outs for head drops but they built to it so well I went with it. Great to see Will claim the asterisked first Briton to win a major title on British soil. A million miles from first watching him at the Methodist Church hall in 2015. Even then he oozed star quality. I think it needs to dial back for the next London show (not including Dynamite). The O2 on a Wednesday for a TV taping is a bold choice, we'll see how it pans out. If I was AEW I'd be schtum until February's done to protect sales. Edited August 31 by Onyx2 Quote

It's a risky move, but I guess you could explain it through Baker being at her best when she was in a tandem with Rebel. She also had great chemistry with Tony Schiavone. So give her someone to bounce off, and perhaps you have a better chance of finding a winning formula? Given her importance to the company during its infancy, I imagine Khan feels some sort of loyalty towards her, even if the stories about her being a pain in the arse are true. It probably is her final opportunity with the company, so you'd have to hope she feels motivated to take advantage of it. Quote

Everything with Rebel put into perspective that there are much more important things in life than whether someone shits the bed in a pro-wrestling match, and in recent times it’s actually felt quite sad how Baker’s run ended. Hopefully things can be better this time. At one point she felt like one of the company’s biggest stars. But yeah - mad for her to return at Wembley, of all places. Like returning to the scene of the crime. Can’t imagine it does much for her confidence to see Willow have an absolute ripper with Mercedes at this year’s All In, just like Toni did at last year’s. The longer Mercedes solidifies herself as one of the best of all time during this AEW run, it’s got to hurt knowing you gave her one of her worst matches of her career. Paid Members Statto Posted August 31 Paid Members Posted August 31 One or two (maybe 3) random thoughts on everything: Rushcalz vs Opps Kinda funny it started hosing it down mere moments after Lio finished his entrance with all the umbrella etc. Harley/Stat vs Sisters of Sin Second AEW show in a row I've sat near someone repeatedly thirsting for Julia Hart at the top of their voice. Costco Syndicate vs STP Went to get unhealthy food during this. It's what Big Boom AJ would want. Persephone vs Maya World For the outrage of the blokes behind me that Baker was so disrespected by being reintroduced on a pre-show, you'd think it was Terry Funk coming back. Thekla "return" Much more interesting than Baker coming back, and she's only been gone like 5 weeks. Trios thing Between the switch from pre-show and the end of New Level's entrance, a dozen blokes just stopped wrestling for a good 5 minutes in the middle of a battle royal. Loads of people I really like in this, which was actually kind of a shame. But I enjoyed it for what it was. Women's Tag Titles Has Wembley ever had an "Is there a fire drill?" chant...? Mox vs Nigel Loved the finish. International Title Would have been MOTN if not for the main event, as has been said. Top stuff from these 3. Casino Gauntlet Being misidentified is by far the most interesting Mistikommander has ever been. Glad they were able to lean into it being as funny as it was, mistakes happen in life. Tag Titles Pretty good for what it was. Not sure it ever felt like a "dream match" to me though. Tag Team parade Made myself giggle imagining the Hurt Syndicate backstage waiting to be cued to go out to join this. "Nah, you're alright fellas. We've got you lined to put over Boom & Doom next PPV pre-show". Falls Count Anywhere Finishing stunts were good, but this was probably the thing I enjoyed least on the main show other than the Women's tag. Wasn't really a match, was it? Women's Title Gutted Willow lost 😔 Main Event Kenny is such a great heel. This was truly excellent stuff from start to finish. Quote

Oh my god, I absolutely loved everything about it and it made me remember why I used to and still do love wrestling. I’ve long since given up on current day WWE and don’t really intend to return to it but I’ve become a massive AEW fan.
