I think when Mox had the title it was clear it was all about keeping the strap on him but since he's lost it its all got messy. 

 

If the story is 'recruiting those that believe in the Death Riders and what AEW is all about' then perhaps it should be that someone like Darby turns...but then down the line he double crosses Mox but brings back Garcia and Yuta to the Conglomoration. The rest kind of say 'Look Mox, its been a great run but I think its time to accept the Death Riders are finished'. Mox goes away for a few months to recharge and refocus. In the meantime another heel (Gabe Kidd?) Tries to run a new version of DR and seems to be getting somewhere so then when they are doing a massive beat down on Darby and a few others 'Wild Thing' hits and out comes Mox to make the save. Freshens things up somewhat especially if they maybe have Kidd with Bullet Club and we end up with heel Bullet Club v face Death Riders

What I can't work out....

Is how was there not a absolute disaster when they smashed that fish tank.......that's not light tube glass it's a fucking fish tank the glass must have been deadly

Yeah, I remember growing up, a fish tank fell off the mantelpiece and my entire family were sliced to death.

Guys I haven’t even seen Forbidden Door yet. I still want to watch Takeshita vs ZSJ, Bandido vs Hechicero and I’d like to watch some of the picks from Saree and Iyo Sky’s respective excellent years. I cannot begin to imagine how I will manage the AEW backlog. Can all the wrestling just take a bit of a break please.

What I can’t fucking work out is that if you’re gonna have a fucking fish tank in a match, at least have some fucking piranhas in there like these fuckers

This thread reminded me of a few years ago, when our fish tank cracked. My animal-loving wife insisted we had to save the one, crappy goldfish we had, despite our young son not giving a single shit. I was ordered to go donate it to the local pet shop. So I had to walk twenty five minutes with a goldfish in a clear plastic jug.

To anyone who saw me, I looked like a complete nutter, taking a goldfish for a walk. A real low point.

Anyway, I was locked and loaded to have a right moan about returning superstars Eddie Kingston, Orange Cassidy and Pac all featuring on the following pay per view’s throwaway pre-show.  But then they did that really clever, brilliant bit of business with FTR and Jet Speed, playing with the usual tropes and formatting of the medium, and genuinely having one of the best openings to any pay per view in history. Absolutely fantastic scenes, with the fireworks going off and everyone going ballistic hitting spots. More of this, please. Peak AEW. When it hits, it’s the best ever.

Bonus shout out to the Hurt Syndicate, still doing nothing to quell the rumours that they’re a political nightmare. Once again you could see the wires a mile off. MVP losing at All Out and Shelton doing the 50/50 loss on TV, all to prove they’re willing to do business, but still ensuring they do one last completely unnecessary pay per view match where they can win in the end. This was the real quiz. Based on merits alone, I’d still consider binning the Hurt Syndicate off. They’re more trouble than they’re worth. Frankly, the best thing they’ve done is having MVP in full-time has ensured Chris Jericho is too scared to come back. Once Jericho returns to the WWE at the Royal Rumble, The Hurts have all outlived their usefulness.

The tazer spot summed up for me what's wrong with these kind of matches. Lots of air-zapping to prove it's a real one, then a very quick jab without any zapping, at which point Moxley decides that rather than just continuing to zap the guy with it until he gives up, he's going to swap it for a steel chair in order to do wrestling stuff. Just Mountie it.

Then Sting showed up, broke and aquarium, and the Death Riders all just chose to leave for some reason. Maybe they were scared of the man with the baseball bat smashing aquariums, but why didn't they just come back when he deliberately handed it over moments later?

I don't think I'd have bothered with this one had it not been in the 2-pack with All Out, and I don't think I'd have missed much. Very glad that my schedule enforced having to watch it across 3 sittings.

To end on a positive, I've wanted someone to open a PPV with the pre-show match still ongoing forever, and was very glad that when someone finally did it they did it so perfectly. Great stuff. Oh yeah, and Hangman is still the Champion of the Fucking World. Which will probably mean I'll buy the next PPV.

When I was a small child I jumped from the wall in my back garden over a peddle car trying to be a stuntman and ended up landing head first on a discarded fish tank in the garden smashing it to pieces. Butterfly stitches down the cottage hospital. Fish tanks ain’t shit.

@Statto all the death riders got twatted with Sting’s Magical Baseball Bat (an excellent cartoon series to be made there) so they were dead at ringside. And Marina was rightfully carried off backstage by him because he’s a gentleman.

You're completely right. I remember Marina being carried off, but for some reason I completely missed/forgot the others coming in the ring and getting a shot to the gut each. In my recollection, you could see Claudio looking shocked/scared in the aisle when the lights came back on, then they were just gone.

AEW is a weird old promotion. I thought the build-ups to Forbidden Door and All Out were strong, but the PPVs were poor. The past month of AEW has been really frustrating and shit but this PPV knocked it out of the park for me. 

All 3 tag matches were fantastic, the crowd massively elevated everything, it had a heel turn I didn't see coming (Shibata broke my heart the massive prick) and the main event was a good laugh with the added bonus of all the Helen Lovejoys freaking out about Darby holding his breath for a bit. 

Sting looked fucking brilliant with the white hair.

It was too long (of course it was, it took place on a day that ended in Y) and I think ultimately the TNT and Womens title matches suffered from the pacing. But other than that it was a great 5 and a half hours (!!) of wrestling.

There finally seems to be a bit more direction going forwards too. Okada/Takeshita looks like it will finally get going, a heel Opps going against Hangman sounds decent (and may lead to Hook and by extension, Eddie Kingston being back in the world title orbit if they take umbrage to Joe's new attitude), Toni/Mina going for the tag belts could be a strong story and we may get some genuine evolution for the Death Riders story.

Dynamite with Okada/Bandido and Opps/Hurt Syndicate already looks like AEW getting back to it's best.

Imo it was a pretty poor PPV as far the women go. 

Mone showing up just to grab a title that no one cares about. Yay. 

Hope she fails to beat Statlander. I like the idea that the world title is the one title that Mone, is unable to win. 

Hayter and Thekla was pretty poor and I was worried that Hayter may have been hurt again after she collapsed with Thekla on her back. 

Imo Statlander Vs. Storm was a big letdown. Statlander also clearly went soft on both Night Fevers, leaving me wondering if Storm was working hurt. 

On the plus side looks like Storm and Mina will be teaming up, going forward.
