Paid Members gmoney Posted October 19, 2025 Paid Members Posted October 19, 2025 (edited) I also found the main event wasn't as grim as I'd feared, it just ended up being stupid, which I'm fine with. I was going to skip that match entirely, but I'd already seen a pic of Sting so I had to see the man in action, resplendent with white hair and his Castrol GTX bomber jacket. Hell of a lot of storytelling done through loud talking, which is a WWE trope I was surprised to see. At one point Moxley was doing some bad acting towards the camera even though he was supposed to be talking to Darby. The stupid aquarium spots brought out the worst in Excalibur and Tony, who have real trouble selling drama at the best of times. It was a real de-escalation to have it end with the Scorpion Deathlock, I thought there were at least going to have some elaborate choke as they'd laid the groundwork of Moxley being scared of being choked out. Whatever, hopefully that feud is done forever. Fun matches throughout the show but with nothing standing out as exceptional, I found it washed over me a bit. Edited October 19, 2025 by gmoney Quote

digforvictory Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 (edited) Well I thought it was a really good PPV, probably the best one since All In. Bucks vs Jurassic Express, Tag title match and Fletcher vs Briscoe were my matches of the night but there was lots of good stuff on the show. Some noteworthy stuff too with heel turns and surprise returns etc. Hopefully with The Opps turning heel it gives Hangman something more dramatic and interesting to deal with. I agree with those saying the last few weeks of TV have been dull and it's felt cold but I thought tonight was a big step up again. Edited October 19, 2025 by digforvictory Quote

More comments about a bit of water than Brodido and Takeshita and Okada putting on a clinic. Priorities are all wrong on here. It’s perfectly fair. I didn’t mind Darby/Mox, but if you don’t like it - and particularly if you REALLY don’t like it - you’re perfectly entitled to say that, and for that to be your takeaway from the show. Quote

I thought they were chanting "this is murder". I thought the match was very silly, but also that it never really went as far as I thought it would. Excalibur solemnly saying, "they've brought an aquarium into the ring" was unintentionally very funny. We joke, but I did wonder if there was something in the washing off of Darby's facepaint- not to sound too much like Malakai Black talking about the lore of what colour socks he put on this morning, but Darby used to talk about how he wore the skull facepaint because he had felt half dead ever since he was in a car accident as a kid, and more recently he has been talking about climbing Everest made him feel alive and like he has something to live for. I wonder if he is going to stop wearing the facepaint, and they wanted the image of him winning this match without it. It was a stupid match with stupid spots. But no worse or less safe than spots in a thousand NXT ladder matches I forgot ten minutes after watching them. The rest of the show was very good, but inconsequential. Great wrestling, zero results ever in doubt. They need something to heat things up again, or else the pattern every year is going to be "stuff gets shit in Autumn, let's hope the Continental Classic fixes it". Quote

The match wasn’t for me, but I respect it. The PPV as a whole? One of the best this year from in ring. The crowd reaction to Briscoe/Fletcher took me by surprise. Really loud and into it and made me realise just how over Mark is. Only thing I didn’t like with Mone. She’s been a great signing. And I appreciate all she’s done as the belt collector by bringing more eyes to the promotions, but her beating Mina, not a fan. Quote

Paid Members LaGoosh Posted October 19, 2025 Paid Members Posted October 19, 2025 Easily my favourite moment of the night was Okada and Takeshita doing the standard "accidentally hit your tag partner to build tension" spot but instead of doing the usual shocked face Okada just pointed and laughed at Takeshita instead. He may be on auto most the time in the ring but he's a hilarious dickhead and I love him. Quote

I thought they were chanting "this is murder" but I might have heard it wrong. Wasn't watching on the best TV tbh. Alright show elevated by a pretty hot crowd. Bucks Vs. Express and Brodido Vs. Okada & Takeshita were probably my favourite matches on the show. Guessing the plan is Omega, Bucks and Express Vs. The DC Family in Blood and Guts. Okada is such a wonderful, smug prick. Flipping Takeshita a sneaky bird after clobbering him got a good laugh out of me. Brodido are great. Main event was alright. Correct result. TNT Title match was good but imo, Fletcher has been exposed as clearly not being the future main event star that some in AEW believe he is. He's just so fucking bland. Hayter Vs Thekla was rubbish. Statlander Vs. Storm was fine I guess. Didn't seem to really get going. Mone won probably the most worthless title in ROH/AEW. Don't care and spent most of the match having a smoke on the toilet. World Title match was solid. Joe going back to his heel roots should be fun. 6.5/10. Quote

I get that, that's fine, but Wrestling has been pushing the envelope for years. Triple H was hitting people with a Sledgehammer for 15 years. Undertaker was zipping people in body bags. Hell, even Jake got Damian to bite Randy Savage. The quality of the wrestling on the show was outstanding, probably one of the best bell to bell shows AEW have ever done. Probably the tamest thing "Death Match Mode" Mox has ever done in AEW. In the 90s I was regularly being sent tapes with labels such as piranha death match, alligator death match, triple hell barbed wire exploding ring glass death match etc. Mr Pogo would be cutting up his opponents with scythes and Matsunaga got set on fire. Earthquake squished a snake and cooked it, The Mountie poured water on to Bret Hart and zapped him with his electric shock stick, Warrior got sealed into a coffin and after trapped in a room of snakes and Macho Man got bitten by one. All that happened within months of each other. Point being it’s wrestling, it’s a stupid cartoon for kids and the kids will be ok. Quote
