That clip of Punk crying and being cuddled by Triple H is hilarious. Punk has lost all of his mystique and aura since he went back to WWE. What an unbelievable hatchet job. 

Sacked him on his wedding day, and then you've got footage of him crying about "main eventing" a show, when in fact he's halfway through the show.

What in the actual fuck, so episode 5 about Cena's heel turn they talk about the chain of contact when they came up with the idea......and Travis fucking Scott was informed and pitched before John Cena??!!!???

Both Beyond the Mat and Wrestling With Shadows were done that way. (Which is why WWE wouldn't ever do it again without final approval.)

Absolutely, that was what I meant by "in the modern era", because they've very much learnt that lesson that hard way. That said,  it's not just wrestling companies who have final approval. It's common practice for the access required for this sort of doc in pretty much any industry nowadays to avoid a PR shitstorm.

Look, I know we all like to joke about Triple H having to insert himself in the middle of everything, position himself as amazing, being the Papa Poochie of Professional Wrestling, and I've always thought he's a soft egoed guy with no self awareness, but I am 30 seconds into this thing and it opened with a close in shot of Triple H, then Triple H talking about all the nicknames the lads have for him and then it literally cuts to a montage which starts with Jerry Lawler yelling "IT'S ALL ABOUT TRIPLE H". If you wrote that as comedy it would be considered too on the nose.

Edit: The very next thing he said was "back 20 , 30 years ago,  you never talked about somebody outside of their character". Kayfabe lived in 2005, apparently.

Why did a lot of the wrestlers introduce themselves as 'my government name is xyz'? I've never heard that phrase used so often. 

Whole thing was a PR puff piece as expected, with a few interesting snippets like Abyss freaking out about Punk/Rollins going long and Prichard being annoyed, Jey Uso getting slightly annoyed the parking lot attendant didn't recognize him, Rhea going shopping for weird trinkets & Punk asking Charlotte if she'd ever shat herself during a match.

I think it’s because nowadays Hunter subscribes to the “different to Vince is better” theory that Eric Bischoff has extolled hundreds of times recounting the story of his war to be top dog (which he’d end up losing), so as a consequence means he needs to be nice guy boss, I wanna be your buddy boss (man Bing). So they’re playing up to that and sucking up to the chiefs desire for everyone to be a big happy family. A further departure from when (see Jericho’s books, among other sources) if you went up to Jr and told him he was a moron and you were sick of it, he’d admire your spirit and immediately give you a renewed push.

In fairness, and I'm not saying any of that is not the case, but given how seemingly toxic the workplace was during Vince's tenure and especially in the latter years it might be that they're just trying to create a slightly less shit environment. Perhaps overcorrected too far the other way, mind and it's a bit saccharine for my taste.

So, I'll start this by saying I absolutely love documentaries. Obviously I'm aware that they're just what they want you to see, and they're edited and blah blah - I get that completely. But to see something like this for something that I've been into for so long is absolutely fascinating.

Don't get me wrong - I get why people would be cynical, whether it's questioning the authenticity of it, or whatever else. It's not going to be for everyone. One of my favourite things WWE have ever made was Breaking Ground and I would've loved more of that. Of course this isn't the same but it's just one of those things that really does interest me.

I'm just going to spurt out random thoughts anyway:

• I know they're all mates but it's so jarring watching people beat the shit out of each other and then congratulating each other backstage.
• The number of decisions they were making last minute - even when it comes down to stuff like how the in-ring Cena heel turn would go - surprised me. Especially when someone said something about long term storytelling and then they spent ages showing bits that weren't long term whatsoever. I don't know why it surprised me as nothing should really but I'd be an absolute wreck working for that place. 
• Talking of absolute wrecks - it was nice to get an insight into the pressures of working for WWE and even moreso the pressures so many of the talent put on themselves. Rhea especially. You'd never guess she felt the way she did about herself and the anxiety etc. All credit to her for being able to perform at the level she does.
• Travis Scott - I really hope the next set of episodes go into where The Rock disappeared to and why Travis never appeared again but that seems unlikely. They all seem to love Travis which is weird but clearly he must do something for them.
• Chelsea - I already liked her before but this really solidified it. Her head is so screwed on and she works so hard. I was even happier for her for the US title win after this. Give her all the gold damnit.
• Jey - again, seeing the thought process behind his Mania push was.. I'm not even sure what the word is. I quite liked that it seemed like a pivot based on crowd reaction, which sometimes has felt impossible in years gone by, but it was also stressful because he nearly lost it. It was definitely a big step up for him.
• Charlotte - I genuinely like her every time I see her as herself. Everything she's been through. All the pressure that comes with being Ric's daughter. She does seem like a really decent person who cares about what she's doing. Even moving past that stuff with Tiffy and being able to do what they did.
• Seth - not a whole lot of insight into him but the little bits did suggest he genuinely does think he's the best and Becky does too.
• Punk - I will absolutely be in the minority here but watching this, I feel like I finally got his love for the business, for WWE and the reasons why he wanted to main event Mania. And if that was enough for him this year then I'm really happy for him. I'm choosing to take it as face value and believe it's authentic. I'm a sucker I know. Sorry.
• Overall I really enjoyed it as I expected to. Again I'm probably in the minority but I actually enjoy seeing them on a more personal basis and getting an insight into their passion for the business and how they feel about it.

Yeah I hate the whole hugging each other and celebrating each other's wins. Bunch of pussies. Nothing takes me out of it more. They don't do it as much as they did from 2015-2019, mind.
