There is no significance or importance of that "World Title".

It's a participation trophy for those on a level below the real belt.

Or to put it another way… getting to say you’re the main event when the whole planet knows you aren’t the main event. Must feel like Groundhog Day for Punksatawney Phil.

I think Cargill’s winning. Her vs Nia was the original plan for Mania for the title, had Tiffs cash in come later, this match might still have happened at SummerSlam anyway. Since the next briefcase has already been and gone, I think they might as well pull the trigger on Jade since Stratton vs heels is a bit played out. I can imagine, if they keep Jade on the rails, they might do Cargill vs Belair at Mania on the opposite side to Ripley vs Vaquer. I think Naomi retains here, you do two big instances later where (in no particular order) Rhea wins the belt back from Naomi and separately finally beats Io.

Cody’s winning. Maybe Punk doesn’t, and they save that for Paris. Either way the participation title goes to him until Seth comes back and cashes in.

Couldn’t sleep so caught this from Jade vs Stratton onwards. Absolutely shocking stuff quite honestly. Jelly Roll was brutal. His turkey teeth the only thing distracting me from his awful selling and the fact he looks like a grotty bin bag.

Punk vs Gunther was fantastic right up until the vortex reopened.

Thought the whole thing looked really low rent. The huge gaps in the crowd, the weird amateur pre-match graphics, the Donald Trump ads. A rare miss for the production.

I woke up to catch Punk celebrating his win having had an early night. I was surprised it finished around 0230. Was it an earlier start this year?

WWE right now is Mrs Brown’s Boys. Crap and often embarrassing, but inexplicably popular nonetheless. And as long as it remains popular, things will keep going as they are.

If they’re going to keep Summerslam as a two night event, they need to make it feel more special. This felt like a house show at times. A fair few of the matches felt insignificant.

Fair play to Jelly Roll for being a rare case of a celebrity not only losing the match, but getting pinned. He was no Bad Bunny though, as far as celebrity wrestlers are concerned. He’s tremendous on the mic, but as far as matches go I hope it’s a one-off for him.

The opening tag match was fine, but their reluctance to give Breakker the big win he deserves is baffling to me. 

I enjoyed Punk/Gunther, and I must admit they did get me when Rollins came out on crutches - I immediately assumed it was an attempt to show he wouldn’t be playing a role in either world title match. I guess someone is turning heel in Cody/Cena tomorrow.

On the whole, it was a below average show. To me, the product feels ice cold right now, but their audience seems to enjoy it, for some reason.

Michael Cole called the Rollins cash in "the ruse of of the century". He clearly wasn't paying attention to the crowd who were sitting waiting for it. 

 

It didn't even make sense, really, from a pure storyline perspective. What did Rollins gain from the fake injury? He came out to his music, did his pose and went to ringside to a standing, prepared Punk. He didn't even get his goons involved.

I suppose you could explain it as Rollins not only getting out of a match at Summerslam (ensuring he was fresh for the cash-in) but getting out of wrestling any matches at all for the last few weeks, meaning he could be in a very good way physically for the cash-in of his choosing.

Forgetting Seth a minute, I just didn't think it was a good show. And, worst than that, it felt poorly put together. Even bad WWE shows have had a professional sheen, but this felt shonky. In just the opening match they cut to the wrong camera multiple times and kept shooting the empty seats which had been covered shabbily with old sheets.

It didn't feel premium at all.

I also came into it with a bad taste in my mouth, because the bit of the show you're supposed to invest in and care about is always shrinking. I thought the opening video with that comedian fella was a big flashing siren saying 'Darren, this show simply isn't for you anymore.' It didn't promote a single story, or build any tension, it was just about how the whole point of everything they do is going viral on social media. 

It was basically an advert for not bothering to watch the shows, and just keep refreshing your Instagram feed. I know I'm an old man shouting at the clouds, but I'd rather they booked a wrestling show designed to be enjoyed as a wrestling show and then social media falls out from that, rather than thinking first and foremost in 20 second blocks for TikTok.

The fact that in that same video they specifically pulled out a clip of some podcaster or something saying 'Good Promo'; not for me. This is your big open to the second biggest show of the year for fuck sake, talk about the feuds and the matches. Not your social media engagement rate you fucking losers.

Then Cardi B came out and really shouted at people and all hope was lost.

I worry that WWE under TKO's ownership may never be for me again. The obsession with social media, the endless celebrities, the aggressive advertising... if anyone's watched the new Happy Gilmore yet, it feels like I'm watching MAXI golf when all I want is regular golf.
