There have been loads of players who came up to the SPL from England thinking it would be a skoosh and went back down the road with their tail between their legs. "40+ years of two teams having monopoly on the league" - it's the same or very similar almost everywhere. Germany, Spain, England, France, Italy, Portugal, Turkey. This isn't "one" entertaining season, it's just one that's been more competitive than others in recent memory. I'd much rather the passion and drama of the SPL than anything the Premier League has to offer. Quote

I'm not saying I disagree that it's become boring, but one criterion by which not to judge that is the spread of teams that have won the PL, or the English league in general. Over the past forty years, there have been nine different teams as champion, and the challengers have varied from year to year. In Europe, England has the widest spread of silverware winners - six different teams. Nowhere else in Europe comes close. Quote

I did have a suspicion the Spanish league might be less competitive - it's only had eight winners, but the winners outside Real and Barcelona have won quite a few times. The Italian league, I was able to name at least five winners in my lifetime just off the top of my head, but a swatch on Wiki says they've got a pretty good spread. Tried getting more detail on Germany, but it's difficult because of the wars and the national split - but I could name at least four champions during my lifetime. France, I didn't realise until I checked now that PSG are not as successful as all that - I remembered Marseille and Monaco doing well in the 90s, but didn't realise PSG didn't really dominate until the 2010s. My point is that the "scottish football is shit" chat is utterly tiresome and the "oh the same team(s) always win it" is a common situation in numerous leagues not just across europe but most of the world. Using Italy as an example of a predictable boring league is ridiculous, it's the most open of the biggest leagues in Europe and it's no coincidence that it's probably the best to watch out of them Quote
