Merzbow Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 I'm used to masses of sponsors on the canvas as New Japan have been doing that for god knows how long now, it's pretty much part of their identity. I do still prefer a singular logo though, be it the company or event logo. Quote

It must be untainted by advertising at all costs. There's loads of things that are annoying about wrestling, this seems an odd one to be upset over. This looks to be the end of a fight or between rounds/injury time - something wrestling doesn't have. Any intentional down time in a WWE match is part of the match and cutting to an overhead shot of the ring like this takes away from the investment in the match. MMA doesn't have to worry about this to the same degree, as there's no suspension of disbelief. The sponsored tables will affect investment in a match in the same way - a reminder that they're fake tables provided by the company. Quote

Paid Members BomberPat Posted June 3, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 3, 2025 I'm not necessarily against advertising in wrestling - I love seeing old Lucha matches with the massive Corona logo in the middle of the ring: I just think the WWE stuff looks terrible, it's not well integrated, it's visually appalling. In that UFC photo, at least the octagon design around the Monster logo provides some separation between that and the other logos, there's some symmetry, some sense of colour coordination in there. The WWE ring just looks like they've plastered an ad wherever one will fit, with no rhyme or reason to it. It obviously doesn't help when half of their advertisers are Logan Paul's shit drink, Hulk Hogan's shit racist beer, the literal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the video game company they own, and a product for men who need to be told to wipe their shitty arses, but the aesthetics are the main thing. My apologies FUMboy Three. I do agree with BomberP though. The WWE canvas is aesthetically horrible. Advertising done well wouldn't be so jarring. The Reverend Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 I don't particularly like the adverts on the ring and surrounds - I just make it look messy, but it doesn't really spoil it for me in anyway. What I really hate is the announcers shoe-horning a mention in. Commentary is bad enough these days, but to have it made even worse with the drop-ins make it sound like Alan Partridge mentioning chocolate oranges are available at Rawlinsons. Quote

I still think that looks shit but agree, it's something we are used to - or were when I last watched it years ago. I don't think it's odd to not like something you enjoy plastering ads for tat all over, in addition to the masses of ad breaks and the constant tie-ins with brands, minor celebs and "influencers". If the ads were just a backdrop to a really enjoyable wrestling show, you'd just crack on with it, which I think is the point that @DavidB6937 mentioned earlier. I don't think it's unfair to complain if they're part of actively dragging down the shows, which it appears the whole TKO ethos is for lots of people. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted June 3, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 3, 2025 I don’t even notice the stuff on the ring canvas or LED guardrails. I’d gladly take a trade where they can double or triple the advertisements if in return we never had to be shown another shitty celebrity in the crowd. It’s all been downhill since Jim Ross used to orgasm over Skittles. Quote

It's like old football shirts, and the fact that I liked for example, the Aston Villa shirts* with Muller yoghurts as a sponsor, but the new shirts with Betano look absolutely shit, when in actual fact there really is no difference as they're both ugly sponsors really. Of course it could just be that Muller yoghurts are fantastic. *sorry for #ShirtNonce ing the thread. Quote

An extension of this- have someone in The Rings of Saturn (someone should take it, it’s not been used in forever) and the only way someone can break the hold is to bite the bottom rope. But wouldn’t you know it, they chomped too hard and the rope breaks, leaving them with no escape Edited June 3, 2025 by WyattSheepMask Quote
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted June 3, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 3, 2025 Now WWE have bought AAA, maybe we’ll see the Titantron used in a similar way during matches. Quote
