Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted January 27 Paid Members Posted January 27 Next I’ll find out Bears actually shit in the woods.   No, not those bears.  I’m a big fan of Pee Wee. Paul seemed to be really beloved by his friends. One of whom was David Arquette who in turn introduced him to RJ City and they became firm friends. He told a story once of when RJ and Arquette were tagging they asked if they could make Pee Wee inspired wrestling gear. Ruebens said no but they did it anyway and he was a bit pissed off about it. I can’t find the clip, hopefully someone else remembers it. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 28 Paid Members Posted January 28 I tried watching one of his films once but didn't even make it close to the end. Not even as far as I made it with Hundreds of Beavers. Happy coming out, Paul! Quote
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted January 28 Paid Members Posted January 28 Just now, Devon Malcolm said: I tried watching one of his films once but didn't even make it close to the end. Not even as far as I made it with Hundreds of Beavers. Happy coming out, Paul! Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is great, like a proper romp from the 60’s. It started Tim Burton, and Danny Elfman’s careers though so it has that pro/con going on.  Big Top Pee Wee is crap from what I remember. The Netflix film I thought was fine enough, not great.  But I also was familiar with Pee Wee’s Playhouse which is what got me into his work. I can definitely understand people that don’t like his stuff though. Quote

Paid Members LaGoosh Posted January 28 Paid Members Posted January 28 Pee Wee's Big Adventure is a beautiful, unique, magical and hilariously odd film and one of my favourites. Tim Burton and Danny Elfman's finest work by far and all held together by a brilliant performance from Reubens, a delightfully fun cast and a cracking script from Reubens and the legendary Phil Hartman. A fun tidbit about the writing of the script - it was the first time they had written a movie script so they bought a "screenwriting 101" book and followed the formula laid out exactly to the point that the film is exactly 90 minutes long and the first, second and third acts all start exactly 30 minutes apart from each other. Not hugely surprised by this news and it doesn't matter at all. I get the impression Reubens lived a somewhat solitary life. It's a shame he is often tarred as a wrong-un because I don't think that's accurate at all. He was a wonderful and good man. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted January 28 Paid Members Posted January 28 (edited) I remember seeing an episode of Pee Wee's Playhouse aged about 10, not getting it at all, and finding it unbelievably, distressingly annoying. I was not on that wavelengh. I've never got around to the films, but I reckon I might like them these days. He was usually great in non-Pee-Wee roles, particularly in Parks and Recreation. Edited January 28 by gmoney Quote

Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted January 28 Paid Members Posted January 28 His greatest film is obviously Dunston Checks In. Quote

Paid Members Jazzy G Posted January 28 Paid Members Posted January 28 I remember loving Peewee's Big Adventure as a kid. I'll admit I haven't watched it as an adult, so have no idea whether there's a load of stuff I missed out on watching it at that age. I hope watched Big Top Peewee a few times as well and it was fine. There was a talking pig? I would sometimes watch Peewee's playhouse, featuring Laurence Fishbourne, when it showed on Nickelodeon but I'd pretty much aged out of it by then. I did watch a YouTube upload of his adult Peewee's Playhouse revival stage show and that was pretty amusing. He's gay, you say? Well colour me shocked. Quote
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted January 29 Paid Members Posted January 29 Paul Reubens was the worst thing in Flight Of The Navigator. There. I said it. Quote
