AEW TV 2025 Discussion

I thought that was a really solid episode, much stronger than post-PPV Dynamites have had a tendency to be. Pretty much every segment nicely set up where we’re heading in the next few weeks and months (give or take a pitstop where everything grinds to a halt for Forbidden Door). I didn’t even mind the Copeland segment as much as everyone else!

The Young Bucks are so good aren't they?

Brilliant segments popping up all over the show.

Zero insecurities, not afraid to poke fun at themselves regularly, and make everyone they work with look a million dollars.

These guys will be missed when they pack it in.

Pretty much agree with this.

I liked the Cope segment, other than Stokely being shit (as always). I thought Copeland's promo was decent enough.

Actually went 'Yes!' at Hangman thanking the real main character of AEW, Orange Cassidy. Him thanking all of Mox's previous opponents was a lovely touch actually.

The Young Bucks stuff was good fun.

Even though I have tickets for Forbidden Door, I kind of hope AEW vs NJPW is treated as a kind of Insurextion-esque 'non-canon' show this year. I'm really enjoying their momentum and all of the storylines at the moment and I've got no desire for things to stop for three weeks while TMDK and ZSJ and Ishii and Shota Umino are all over the show.

It does feels...right...that I'm enjoying the Young Bucks again. Because they're very good. 

I didn't enjoy the initial turn into the EVP characters because it seemed like a sort of on-the-nose lightening rod for everyone's complete awareness that all aspects of the company across the board were dwindling. In those initial few weeks where Punk still felt like a massive loss, you had them out there gurning their best "Say goodbye to the good old days" act and whilst I can see the play, it just felt like fuck off heat. 

Having a bit more fun with it whilst the rest of the product's doing great and it's evident they're not attempting to be the central arc/authority figures of the show, though? Great stuff.

speaking of Punk (I know, I know), there was something really satisfying about Hangman Page walking into Chicago as World Champion and being met with a hero's welcome. That's as good a symbol of how far they've moved past the shadow of Punk as anything.

I know wrestlers are mostly nutters, with whacked out values and backwards brains, but even so. Must be crazy sitting in a production meeting, where your new character and angle is pitched.

Yes, exactly the thought I had! Sure I've heard this before on the menu screen of a Smackdown vs Raw game. Meltzer reckons they've deliberately given him a stinker to stop people cheering for him.

Don't get me wrong - I like the concept of a particular match being for a big cash prize, but they're kinda overdoing it right now. 3rd TV show in a row with one, I think?

Ricochet taking the piss out of The Bucks, was the icing on the cake. 

Rock solid episode.

Not sure I would have booked the new world champion to win with a roll up, though. Especially over a scrub like Claudio. 

Toni Storm. Once again, best promo in the business.

I saw a few criticisms along these lines when Toni Storm dethroned Mariah May with a small package, but I don't agree with it at all. In AEW, a roll-up has never been seen as a lucky win or a fluke like it may be in other companies. It's seen more as one competitor successfully out-wrestling their opponent. 

To that point, one of the things I really liked about AEW a few years back was certain guys having signature pins. Orange Cassidys Mousetrap, Darby Allins Last Supper, Wheeler Yuta's Seatbelt. It's really only Toni Storm who has her small package now but I wish it was something they would revisit more.

Who’d have thought that Ricochet would be someone who had the ability to maximise his mic time in the way he’s done since jumping to AEW? Much like Swerve, FTR, Toni, Christian and Moxley, I don’t even think of him as ex-WWE anymore, he’s reinvented himself in the most brilliant and unexpected way.

From what's been said it was Okada that suggested the change. While Okada is a fan of the band, on the small sampling I'm not.
