Creating an entirely new friend group after moving to London. Probably those two and making at least a cursory effort at getting a book published, considering the amount of time I sink into writing and editing. Where in London? If it kills two birds with one stone, there are good writing groups around. If you're in North London, I run one that's pretty well established. Quote

I'm moving south of the river but zone 1, so going north isn't an issue. Drop me a PM with details if you have them mate. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted January 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2025 Mine is to get back to the gym. I started getting lower back pain halfway through the year thanks to a combination of being fat and working in an office sitting down 8 hours a day. Suddenly I couldn't walk or stand up for longer than 10 minutes without being in agony, and it just hit me out of nowhere. We started eating better and going to the gym and we were both going 3-4 times a week for about 3 months and feeling huge benefits, then just as Christmas season rolled around and we'd need that counterbalance the most, the gym closed for refurbishment for 2 months, doubled in price and I've eaten nothing but shit through December and my back has went again. The Gym is reopen now so I need to get back there and get back into it again. Secondary to that is another one that's cropped up in here from a few of you and that's cut out social media entirely. I'd already cut out all of them except Reddit years ago, and was only using that for wrestling and baseball news, but you find yourself doom scrolling so much and in an upcoming second Trump term it's been insufferable and stressful. Need to delete the app completely. Quote
Paid Members Callum1993 Posted January 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2025 So for me the first thing is in terms of fitness. I really got into running during lockdown and lost 4 stone and was in the best shape of my life. Over the last couple of years I’ve been really inconsistent with it and have put a lot of the weight back on. So that’s my first thing to get back to the running, eating healthy and hopefully drop a few stone as the year goes on. Second is in terms of dating. I came out a couple of years ago and have had a few dates since then but nothing that has really seemed likely to last long term. So once I’ve sorted the fitness out I’m going to make an effort with this as well. Back on the apps etc once I’m happier with my physical condition. Quote
Slapnut Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 By this time next year I would like to have a plan in place to take the leap into the freelance world as an Assistant Editor in high-end TV. It’s probably too soon for me to take the leap within the next year, but I plan to at least have the path set in stone. I need to organise a couple of dates to shadow an assistant editor I did a course with recently whose job is essentially what I want to do. That’s the first step, and then fuck knows from there, but it’s a start. I really like my job, but being back in an office full time is completely draining my social battery and it’s having a negative effect on my social life. I’m quite a social person in general but fuck me, it’s absolutely exhausting trying to be friendly and contribute to conversations that have already happened 10 times this week alone. I definitely need to make more of an effort to see friends more. Finally, I need to write more comedy material. My 2024 goal was to average one gig a week which I didn’t manage, so I’m trying again this year. I should hit the 100 gigs mark this year which will be nice. Quote
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted January 3, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 3, 2025 I need to just do more. This year feels like it has whizzed by, with nothing much to show for it. Definitely need to get back in shape, as I'm too old and too inactive now to coast along on being "just fit enough" for stuff. I made a good start in summer, but then got hit with a bout of tennis elbow which plays havoc with my grip, so my "I'll leave it a few weeks so it can heal" has turned into "Oh, I appear to have stopped going the to gym altogether". My diet is somewhat less than ideal too, mainly from comfort eating and snacking, which I actually spend a frightening amount of money on. Need to take a bit of responsibility for other areas of health. Too much cancer in family for me to just hope for the best, so I'll treat my prostate to a PSA test. My toes have developed an immunity to every over-the-counter treatment for fungal nail infections, so I'll have to see the doctor to get something stronger. Going to try and get back into writing music. I've hardly done any the last few years, as I've been caught up in the bands I'm playing with (there's probably close to a hundred songs between the four sets). One thing I'm very committed to doing is seeing friends more. I recently got back in contact with one of my best friends from when I was around 10-13 through Facebook, we met up and had a fantastic night. I want to break this trend of where the only time a bunch of us from school get together is when there's a funeral. Quote

And 50+ automatically entitled. Get checked lads. *that's all of the UKFF then. Quote
King Coconut Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 I've got my first old-man check-up appointment for 16th Jan. Here's hoping I enjoy it up the bum. Quote

Thefatduck Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 Decided to try and do something for the local community / make sure i read more and I am setting up a local reading group. I do though need some advice on gathering a community including via Facebook (hate it hate it hate it) as this seems the best place to get the message out. Any advice would be great fully received from the great brain that is off-topic. Shirley Reading Club is our imaginative name. Quote
