I used to get really annoyed by incorrect or just fake looking OS' on computers in films, but now I find them kind of charming especially when it's dodgy 90's CGI. I even love Hackers now on rewatch, it's so horribly wrong in every way but you come to love it in a weird way when you understand actual hacking more.

I love Hackers, but as you say it's so horribly wrong in every way. Feels like it was invented solely so it could be part of the "What I/my friends/family think I do/What I really do" meme.

I’m not a fan of the over-reliance of CGI over practical effects. Especially with creature designs. I much prefer a person in a costume, or a puppet/animatronic physically on the set. A Ridley Scott alien is far scarier than any digital ones that followed. Correct me if I’m wrong (please don’t, I prefer to live in ignorance), but I’d imagine CGI is more expensive and time-consuming than making a design from scratch. 

Same goes for actual film sets over green screen. I always loved DVD special features where you could see the skill that went into creating huge sets, props, prosthetics etc.

There's some curious details like the use of acousic couplers (although those generally ran at like 900 baud so not quite what you need for cityscape representations of harddisks) along with references to 2600 and Robert Tappan Morris' worm.   I guess those aren't deep cuts, especially so in the mid 90s. Tiny easter eggs by a bored writer.

Most influential film of my life though, encouraged pre-teen me to... learn to program ?and introduced me to electronic music (banger soundtrack).  The first accounts for my career and the second accounts for one of my hobbies and about half my friends. Funny how these things work (or that we create a narrative based on the one thing that happened to spark something was getting lit regardless)

Similar to others noting computers, I always note how when you get a mad scientist scene and they’re about to put their plan into action, they initiate it on a computer that has had a very custom application developed just to do that one thing.  I always wonder how long it must’ve taken them to build it even though it’ll only get used once, and how they tested it without actually carrying out the act.

And they all look like this, with irrational borders.

I fully appreciate this is very sad.

Also, protagonists who are on the run but never grow facial hair over the several days the film depicts and people who get the living shit kicked out of them but have no facial injuries or bruises whatsoever.

And if there’s a car crash, you can guarantee the main character will merely have a cut on their forehead. Maybe a trickle of blood from the nose if it was a bad one.

You'd love old episodes of CHiPs. All their low speed car chases end with an anticlimactic crash in to a hay bale. Very realistic.

Since I watched something about it years ago, I've always been annoyed by car jumps everywhere since as the science means the engine weight would drag the car downwards far quicker. Also why isn't the body of a modern car in actual tatters, I've seen knocks in car parks where they've crumbled to bits. 

A less serious one but there's never any faffing or delays (yes I know it would ruin the stream of events) before someone goes to do something nobody ever pops to the loo or needs to find their bank card to buy a ticket.
