I'm not buying into any notion that this is a work. Might AEW, down the line, manage to quell the anger and bring it to TV and PPV? Yes, but it will still be rooted in something very real. Punk's outbursts during the presser were real, the backstage fight was real, and the potential consequences will be real. Just like MJF and just like Eddie vs Punk though, AEW might spin a story around these real actions later on in order to capitalise on the interest. Real feuds and real issues sell, and I'm ready to buy into this should AEW go in that direction.

On the unlikely chance they can all settle their differences backstage but run this on TV as a feud you could have some cracking telly. The Elite vs Punk, he brings his mates FTR and Samoa Joe in as backup, the BCC and JAS get involved. Full on faction warfare for dominance  of AEW and six-nine months of matches and stories.

In reality this situation could end up destroying the company but hey, it's a nice thought.

your idea could happen AND still it could kill the company.

I can’t see any way this “destroys the company” even if you got rid of the elite guys and Punk there’s more than enough talent left to keep a good company going.

The only thing that makes me even slightly entertain the prospect of this being a work, even with all the weird coincidences I outlined earlier, is the role of Ace Steel. A guy who's been behind the scenes, and meant nothing to 99% of the audience, starts making headlines right after he's had a promo on TV to introduce him to the audience, and to establish his relationship to CM Punk, makes everything a lot neater and easier to understand than if he'd still been some nobody.

However, the more likely explanation is that Punk getting his mate some TV time is an example of Punk throwing his weight around and getting what he wants, which is exactly the sort of thing other people are annoyed with him for.

Vince McMahon ran a pro wrestling PPV in 1999 where a pro wrestler fell from the ceiling to his death in the ring, and Vince insisted on having the show carry on as normal instead of ending the show, cutting the feed, emptying the building and having the police treat the situation. He continued to run that company to blistering new highs (and lows) for over twenty years, unabashed and unopposed. I think AEW can handle some backstage fighting without crumbling.

Big Dave reporting that Punk might be injured, possibly as a result of the backstage fight. Hilarious, if it’s true.

That might be a convenient way of quietly suspending him. Even so, if an altercation has caused their champion to be injured then the Bucks needs to face the same punishment as Punk

We’ll surely only if he was injured by one of them. What if he broke his hand punching Nick?

Kingston to win the Interim title at Grand Slam please.

I dunno if it would be the best idea to reward another guy who's recently assaulted someone backstage in the aftermath of this.

If you confront someone in that situation you are also culpable. They're in positions of power in that company. If your line manager stepped to you in an aggressive manner he would be disciplined even if you called him a wanker

They should bin Punk because the old twat is made of glass. Can't build a company around someone who will likely keep getting injured.

Part of the problem with wrestlers is most of them have never had proper careers outside of wrestling where you learn to be a normal human so to them all this mad shite they do and think seems rational.

I doubt he'd be disciplined as harshly if you decked him though.

Big difference.

The Bucks are bellends but if reports are accurate that he threw the first punch then imo it's totally on Punk for escalating the situation to actual violence.

Never change wrestling.

Edit.

However if he was hurt by a sucker punch or multiple peace laying in then that would be a different story.

As it is we don't really know what happened.
