Fog Dude Posted February 2, 2021 Author Share Posted February 2, 2021 The results went into the initial post on Sunday night (just about, as I was busy losing a quiz to Shy Dad, among others) and the table was figured out once the Rumble was finished. RoryFice got his D2D bet wrong, and was the lowest scorer among people who got their picks in on time. Best performer TildeGuy took full advantage to move 7 points clear of the wooden spoon spot, whilst Vegeta moves clear of Stinky Dad in second place but is still 6 points off the lead. Only three people bet against Rory. Everybody else missed the deadline. This might sound harsh on them or on Rory (who could've missed out on bonus points if he'd bet correctly), but I'm going to have to allow the outcome to stand. I warned in the sign-up thread against adopting teams from leagues that often move much of their schedule forward to Friday nights and Saturday lunchtimes. I've also said in previous seasons that it's unwise too many teams from countries that (in normal, non-pandemic circumstances) run on calendar years instead of August-to-May schedules. Then two of you go and pick the Brazilian second division anyway. As a second choice – i.e. for the second half of the season. What else was I meant to do? Avaí currently have no further competitive games scheduled, so the case is closed as far as I'm concerned. Moving on... wins for Liverpool, Juve and Feyenoord all proved fruitful, a stalemate at The Emirates surprisingly less so. Victories for Villa, Leeds and Brighton caught most participants out, whilst four goals shared at the Hawthorns and a poor reverse for Wolves at Selhurst Park also both turned out to be difficult to foresee. It was actually round 23 rather than 22, and it's entirely my fault for not keeping track of that properly. In a fairly high-scoring week, Shy Dad got his bet correct, and the bonuses accrued were enough to put him over the top as the best performer. Briefcase was also into double figures this time out. That Hereford result was the only one I didn't get right, but a complete lack of three-pointers cost me, so the gap at the summit remains at 6 points. Joint lowest scorer Rory is now a full eleven adrift at the foot of the standings. Elsewhere, away wins for Chelsea, Torquay and PSG proved fruitful, but five goals at St James's Park, a stalemate at Craven Cottage and a poor reverse for Bordeaux caught most people out. Another bore draw, this time at Molineux, alongside a scoring one at Turf Moor, turned out to be tougher to foresee. The outcome at Anfield ended up as more of a mixed bag of guesses with nobody quite matching the exact scoreline. A new set of 10 will be up in the original post very shortly, including a D2D turn that may surprise some of you, not least the person whose turn it is!
