Continuing to enjoy Outlaws.

I really don't enjoy the mini puzzles for picking locks, hacking into systems etc. I felt like they were cropping up a bit too often. I found you can just turn them off entirely and that's really improved things for me.

I was also starting to think its maybe a bit heavy on the sneaking about and light on action. The balance improves quite quickly in that regard as it seems most lengthy stealth sections are followed by a big shoot out.

Riding around on the speeder really is lovely stuff with the huge, beautiful landscapes. Some of the scenery really is amazing too. The mission where you explore the crash site of a republic cruiser in particular is absolutely stunning.

I am reliably informed that Cyberpunk is also a great port. Hopefully this bodes well for current gen ports. I am excited to see how the Switch 2 version of Resident Evil Requiem turns out.

I’ve finally started Claire Obscure after the VGA sweep and although I appreciate the massive work this team has put in but I don’t think it’s for me, I couldn’t give you a reason, I enjoy turn based RPG’s, the characters are good, the parry system is fun and really gives you a sense of achievement when you pull it off.

There’s just something though, not sure what it is yet, I’ll play a bit more to see

If it’s not for you, it’s not for you - I’d have put money on you enjoying it, but it’s now a game that anyone who plays it will go into with heightened expectations, and that’s rarely a helpful thing. For me, the story is one of the best ever told in video games, and I’ve replayed it several times now. The big moments still hit hard for me second and third times around, and you notice so many more things on each playthrough. I’m just starting another one, to play the DLC. I could continue my old save, but I don’t want to! I can see this becoming a near-annual play for me, much as Final Fantasy VII and The Secret of Monkey Island are.

I hope it clicks for you, but if it doesn’t, sometimes that happens. There are plenty of critically acclaimed games, films and TV shows I’ve not got into (Bloodborne, Ghostbusters and The Bear, I’m looking at you!) - I’d say persist until the end of Act 1 if you can, and if you’re not liking it by then, you should maybe drop it and revisit it in a few years.

In my case I really couldn't get on with the real time additions to the combat. Sure I can appreciate doing something different but it just wasn't for me.

I'll definitely give it another chance at some point. It's definitely an interesting game and I really like the setting, story, etc.

Can see why it's so popular despite my issues with it.

Edit.

For example. One of my friends who usually hates turn based RPG's, rates it as their game of the year.

I played it at launch and the parry/dodge system didn’t really click and so I left it maybe a couple of hours in. Came back to it a month or so ago and it all fell together, I don’t think another game has had the same impact on me in such a long time. It probably sounds wanky but I long figured that staring down the barrel of being 50 I probably wouldn’t have these pivotal pieces of media in the same way that I did helping define me in my first quarter century. Clair Obscur really proved me wrong (along with the new Critical Role Amazon show but that’s another topic) and I was literally giddy yesterday to find out I had new DLC to play.

Just completed the main story on Spider-Man 2 on PS5, enjoyed it but certainly not as much as the first game in the first series, thought the story was a little rushed in places

looking forward to completing as many side missions as possible next before I move onto my next game

I maybe in the minority as well but I am not a big fan of the multi verse

Hogwarts Legacy is free on PC via Epic Games until 18th I think.

I grabbed it the other day been wanting to play it since release but think my PC might catch fire if I try to run it. At least it's in my library now for when I finally get round to buying a new rig.

Still really enjoying Brotato. I updated to the Switch 2 edition, and am eagerly looking forward to the New Dawn update when it releases on Switch with the rebalancing.

Gave Old School Rally a look, and there's something about the handling that feels a bit off. It can't decide whether it's Sega Rally or Colin McRae and in trying to be both ends up being neither.

CRKD have opened pre-orders for the new Nitro Dock. Vicky has the original and she loved it. This version looks like it won't be as bulky. For £90 I'm tempted to take a punt in the new year, but have a feeling that if Hori are doing a split pad pro for this generation it may have 6 face buttons so you can have a proper game of Street Fighter with it.

There's also a free Switch 2 upgrade for Ball X Pit available. I can actually see what's going on now because of higher resolution graphics.

I was reading Cameron Kunzelman's great Assassin's Creed book and now I've signed myself up for a complete series replay. Coming to the end of the first one and it's an interesting game but largely a chore mechanically. The parkour is more limited, and requires more consideration. The gameplay for each section is identical to the last - just do the same actions to hear the same voicelines,

But the actual assassination missions are great, and I love the sci-fi approach with the Animus. I'm one of the sickos that loves the Desmond stuff as much as the 'in the past' stuff. Excited to keep going.

I've started a few, but never really gotten very far in as stealth doesn't seem to be my thing. The one I got furthest into was Odyssey? I think I've played too many beat em ups to be any good at sneaking around.

I think most people say Odyssey and Valhalla are just both simply too big and repetitive. Origins on the other hand, I enjoyed tremendously.

All the games are on offer on Steam at the moment. Think I've got the one from London and also the one from Rome that are on my to do list. Is one of those significantly better than the other?

I might be in the minority not loving Terminator No Fate, sure the presentation is outstanding but each of the different gameplay mechanics feel half baked at best and have been done much, much better by other indie games over the past few years. The driving levels are especially bad and feel like a pretty looking flash game.

It's nice visual fan service but I think once the hype wears off it won't be remembered as a particularly good game. At least it's better than the Amiga game I had!

I played all of the London one (Syndicate) years ago and have virtually no memory of it at all. I recall the AC2 trilogy, Black Flag, and Odyssey being the really good ones, but have yet to test how they hold up now vs at the time.
