The Switch sale looks decent for a change. I’ve got Hades and the latest Mario and Rabbids game which has 90% off. Considering Red Dead Redemption because of the recent upgrade but realistically not going to have enough time to play.

Got a few hundred quid extra off work this month as a result of winning an internal award. Immediately dropping that on Steam the second it hits my bank account.

I'm filling the final gaps in my Assassin's Creed collection for that playthrough, and I'm picking up every Resident Evil game - determined to make 2026 the year I got into that series after only really playing Revelations.

Also picking up the Tony Hawk remakes, new Katamari, the remade Yooka-Laylee (which I've heard fixes all of its major design problems), and Tainted Grace: Fall of Avalon which I've heard is like indie game Bethesda RPG which I'm open to

Tainted Grail is very good - and Yooka Replaylee is significantly better than the original. If 3D platformers are your thing, I’d recommend A Hat in Time and Tinykin - two of my favourite platformers of the past decade. Tinykin is particularly cheap on Steam right now, but both are very reasonably priced for what you’re getting.

Downloaded the Switch 2 Demo of FFVII: Remake just to see how it runs.

Really impressive. Am I really going to play through this for a 3rd time on a 3rd system? It's looking likely if I am honest.

So far so good in porting graphically impressive games to Switch 2 I think.

I am still playing through Outlaws and enjoying it. With work/family commitments I probably get about 90 mins to play a game per day if I am lucky and its perfect for that. The loop is basically as follows - you need a piece of equipment, you sneak in somewhere to get it, you blast our way out. It is fairly repetitive but my sheer enthusiasm for Star Wars is keeping me glued to it. I might have gotten bored already if this was 2020 and I had the time to play for about 4 hours a day. It's not in the top tier of Star Wars games (for me that is TIE Fighter and KOTOR) but its better than most.

With it being December, it's reminding me of Christmas '97 when I got an N64 and Shadows of the Empire . A game also set in between Empire and Jedi. Beautiful times.

Just finished the campaign for Marvel Cosmic Invasion with my 7 year old. It’s great fun by the same team that made Shredder’s Revenge. Almost got it on Switch, but noticed it was included on the Gamepass on Xbox.

I’m playing through this on Switch 2, and it’s fantastic - I’m not typically a fan of beat-em-ups, but it’s a load of fun. I’ve not played it co-op yet, but I’m really looking forward to doing that. I’m assuming there are two players on screen rather than it being a tag-in/tag-out thing?

There’s two of you on the screen, you can have up to four so gets a bit chaotic. We had to get my wife involved to help with a couple of the trickier bosses to get through it.

Soul Calibur 3 is out on PS+.

Fuck yes that's me sorted for a while.

Edit.

It's only £7.99 so I just bought it. Absolute bargain.

I’ll need to give it a try, first time I played it on PS2 I just didn’t get into it, it didn’t live up to the heights of Soul Calibur 2 for me - although none of the subsequent games have as of yet. Tekken has had the same issue for me, it’s never equalled the heights of 3, as much as I enjoyed the most recent entry in the series.

It's a tag system if you're playing solo, but if you've got more than one player it's multiple characters on screen. There are two "recommended" characters to each stage as there are the little missions like in Shredder's Revenge, and there's dialogue through the level delivered by those characters, but you can pick who you want. I love that Beta Ray Bill is in it as he's one of my favourite Marvel characters.

I can't see this on the PS4 store. Have you bought it on PS 5?

I've been downloading a few PSVR games in preparation for the arrival of a PSVR set.

I bought it on PS5. Pretty sure the PS4 version was downloadable.

Tried playing Ball x Pit today. Gave it 20 minutes. Swore at it ("fucking roguelikes") and gave up.

Then started Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Much more like it. Loved the original and already enjoying the opening to this. It's not much of a departure (so far) but why would it be when the first one was so good?

For the first year since maybe when I got Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U, I asked for games for Christmas. I got the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series which I already have digitally but wanted on disc. I also got Robocop Rogue City: Unfinished Business which is a standalone DLC for the very good Robocop game from a couple of years ago which surprisingly got a physical release, and I got Once Upon a Katamari.

Katamari was about £45 I think, but it's new so that's fine. I've played a few stages and if you like Katamari then you'll like this. It's added a few newer bells and whistles like collectable powerups (the magnet is very satisfying) and coincidentally like modern Mario's coins, it has 3 secret crowns in each stage. I'm having a blast with it, Katamari is one of my chill out games that can bring me back down to earth when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

The other two came in at under £20 each which made them good gifts to ask for from siblings who we usually spend about £20 on PSN or Xbox vouchers for anyway. I've finished Klonoa a bunch of times, it's one of my favourite PS1 games so I picked the digital release of this up basically day one. I still haven't gotten around to doing Klonoa 2 yet though.
Robocop is apparently short and sweet, so looking forward to blasting through that. I rewatched the films again recently and where Rogue City was full of references to 1 and 2, this DLC looks to have bits from 3 in to complete the series.

Other than those I picked up Gamepass for £1 with the offer they're doing, mostly because a friend asked me to play Red Dead Redemption Online with him. It's buggy, constantly disbands our posse and disconnects us to other lobbies. No surprises from Rockstar sadly, I think GTA V came out so long ago now people forget it was basically an unplayable mess for a very long time. To see they still haven't cracked how to do online isn't a shock, though I suppose they're spending all their time now union busting and being cunts. We gave up after multiple failed days worth of attempts and started playing Deep Rock Galactic again instead. Rock and Stone!

I'm still slugging away at Terminator 2D: No Fate. At risk of doxxing myself a little bit, I'm actually a world record holder on a couple of speedrun categories of it and other than the moderator was the first member of the speedrunning discord for it too. Strategies are still evolving as recently as just today, but a lot of tech and strats I actually created or helped refine, though I'm sure the game and community will outgrow me as I move into other things.

I picked up Tekken 8 for £12 from CEX the other day but other than a couple of story mode fights haven't given it much time. I got a platinum trophy for Tekken 7 back on PS4 but fell out of love with fighting games after that and Mortal Kombat 11, to the point I haven't even bothered with MK1 even though it's also on Gamepass now and cheap enough to buy physically, and until this point didn't touch Tekken 8 either. £12 was a bargain though. Sadly story is still all about the Kazamas, the least interesting family in fighting. Just give me a King story mode you cowards.

Also on Gamepass I've became slightly hooked on Clover Pit, a rogue-lite (or rogue-like? I can't remember) slot machine game. I'd love to tell you the game has a hidden meaning or there's a lot to do in it, but there's not, despite how hard the developers have tried to give it a bit of character. It's a one armed jack, you pull the lever and fruit goes brrrrrr. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't, and there are powerups and lucky charms you can buy from the store to help you create strategies and techniques. If you don't hit your monetary targets, the game kills you off.
It's basic and sometimes you don't even make it out of the first round, but the other day I got into a rhythm and I had lemons coming out the arse which was very satisfying to feel like I had infinite luck. Just like real gambling though, that high doesn't last for long. Best played in short spurts, and honestly if gambling addiction has been an issue for you I wouldn't recommend the game at all.

Speaking of games best played in short bursts, I've also been playing Call of Duty Black Ops Whatever on Gamepass too. The plan was to play the campaign with my Brother but neither of us could actually be arsed, so I've been doing a bit of multiplayer. As usual with the COD games over the last few years, I just slum all my time in Nuketown 24/7 because like me, they're crying out for when the game wasn't a low effort AI slop-filled mess. I have no idea about the rest of the game and honestly have no interest in finding out. One bit of praise I will give it, is after like a decade of asking they finally took Skill Based Match Making out so now you get thrown into pot luck lobbies. For me at least this means I've been winning more than losing, because with SBMM they rigged it so if you started playing well they'd throw you into pro lobbies with FaZe Clan so humble you. Everything feels more balanced now with a good mix of skill levels and no random matches where you suddenly get dicked all over and spat back out.
