Before today I was blissfully unaware that there are people asking over a hundred quid on eBay (plus postage, bizarrely) to play games on your account so that you'll get the platinum trophy.

I can't imagine taking trophies/achievements so seriously that I'd pay real money to pretend I earnt them, not to mention trusting a stranger with my login details.

I hate video game trophies. I realise that it encourages some people to get more out of a game but when that more is collecting 500 feathers or 6 billion headshots or something it just sounds like a miserable slog. And worse, I'm sure some game developers use it in place of generating actual interesting content.

The most I've ever got out of them is a "oh, that's a pun."

Will this be any good lads?

Was going to buy a Switch, but if I should hold out for that I will.

Switch really was just for Zelda and MGS when it comes out. Kids always take theirs home :(

It'd be alright if people had the Internet connection for it. I don't know whether I'd trust it to play something like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, or whatever the hot battle royale game du jour Is, but it might not be too bad for single player games. Having said that if streaming games like this was viable at the moment Google Stadia would still be a thing and I'd be playing that Pacman game that was on there.

I wish Sony would try another proper handheld again. The Vita's a little gem, easily hackable, properly portable and great battery life. I regret not getting one until looong after it was dead. If I wasn't paranoid about old burn-in/or could trust that one was actually new I'd happily pay full RRP for an OLED model, it must have looked beautiful in its day.

I would avoid anything that streams entire games.  Internet speeds might have improved massively over the years but latency is pretty much built into the fabric of the internet, and it's latency that kills the experience.

Have there been any rumours of a "Pro" version of the Xbox in the near future?  I really, really like the look of Starfield and it might tempt me to finally buy a current-get console.  But the cost of Xboxes doesn't seem to have dropped and I'd be a touch annoyed if I bought one just before new hardware was released.

Thanks lads. I will be purchasing a Switch.

You won’t regret it. I think, out of any console I’ve owned, the Switch has the highest proportion of games that I couldn’t possibly part ways with. It’s a cracking console.

If it had literally no other games except either Mario Odyssey or Tears of the Kingdom it would still be a worthwhile purchase to me, just for one of those two.

Unless you love Mario and Zelda I wouldn’t bother with a smelly Switch.

This new streaming thing from Sony will work absolutely fine. I used to stream Destiny from my PS4 to PS Vita all the time and never had any problems, and that was back in 2015

Nah, that's nonsense. The Switch library is incredibly deep, excluding Mario and Zelda - you have the Online service (with a massive library of Gameboy, GBA, NES, SNES and N64 games), the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles series, the Fire Emblem series, Pikmin 1-4, Pokemon (including the brilliant Let's Go and Legends Arceus games), Bayonetta, the criminally underrated Astral Chain, Advance Wars, Splatoon, Kirby, Metroid Prime and Dread, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong Jungle Freeze, Ring Fit Adventure, Box Boy and Box Girl, Tetris 99, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Arms, among others - and I've only listed Nintendo published games here; outside of that the third library party is ridiculously deep, it's great.

EDIT: @SuperBacon - you may already be aware of this, but you can stream PS5 games to your iPad, if that's of any help. It works reasonably well in my experience; so if you have a tablet it may be worth trying this.
