Can we all agree that a chippy sells fish, pies, sausages and often burgers and chicken. A Chinese takeaway which also sells chippy items is not a chippy, because Scousers will tell you otherwise

My view is it depends if looks like a chippy. You know with the big glass cases and huge jars of pickled eggs & onions and what not.

I'm a two large battered sausage and a large chips kind of guy. Salt & vinegar and curry sauce to dip.

This is what a chippy menu should be:-

Chips

Fish (cod, and maybe haddock if necessary)

Fish cakes

Sausage

Pies (including steak and kidney pudding)

Gravy

Mushy peas

Curry sauce

Potato scallops

Barm cakes

Canned drinks

If you're buying anything else from one, then you're part of the problem.

I don't see Doner kebabs there, chips and done meat is a chippy staple.

No. That's a kebab shop staple. If you want kebabs go to a kebab shop! I don't go to a kebab shop for a goddamn chip barm! This fucking country! #brexitmeansbrexit

Chippys were the only place that did kebabs when I were a lad, we didn't have bespoke kebab shops that you liberal elites had.

This might be a regional thing, I don't remember ever seeing kebabs in chippies when I was a kid. In fact, I can only remember The Godfather on Kingsway doing them locally. Definitely didn't have them in Tony Wong's or The Battered Cod.

I think so, just like chippy's round Chorlton don't seem to do roe either.  Could be worse, they could be Southern.

Do you guys not have gherkins and pickled onions in chip shops up there? (Genuine question)

Just typing this makes me feel old but around 20 years ago while at school, me and mates stumbled upon a place and got fish and chips. They added the salt and vinegar to perfection and from that day forth I have been chasing the dragon (including returning to said place) and its not even got close. Vinegar that dries into chips immediately, fish that doesnt flake right. One day.... One day.

Count me in on kebabs being a staple of any chippy. They were available from the shithole chippy in Newtown when I was little, and that was well over 25 years ago (yes, I was about 5 when I was introduced to kebabs. Yes, I agree, way too late).
