Were there complaints about the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series? If so, that's just stupid.

I'd sooner fresh pairings, insightful storylines (or just something I want to see) and old gimmick matches breathed in some new life, then creating new over the top matches.

Yeah I'd like that too, but it's a lot more effort than just throwing mid carders into a dangerous match for no reason so can't imagine they'd do it any time soon

I'm pretty sure people only moaned about HIAC because that's always been a story ending gimmick while the others have always traditionally been a time of year gimmick. The others can work for continuing stories, while the Cell should only be used to finish big ones

I've myself considered how they could create a new match and what it would entail but i'm massively uninventive so couldn't come up with anything that wasn't total bollocks. On the championship scramble i fairly enjoyed it but struck me as a little hokey for a world title.

Russo Time.

Had a quick think about what you could do for a new gimmick match. Decided that WWE need to do a dungeon-themed, six man match. You have 4 small cages/pods, and put one in each of the corners outside the ring. The cages are a medieval/dungeon style. Change the lighting of the arena for the duration of the match to make it darker and more mysterious. All 6 men start at the beginning and the idea is to beat your opponents until they're incapacitated, at which point you lock them in the cage/pod.

Scatter some whips and chains and other S&M stuff around to spice things up.

Each time a wrestler is locked in a cage, it's lifted 30 foot up above the floor (Bah Gawd). When it's down to the last two wrestlers, a dungeons-style cage surrounds the ring.

This part of the match is called Total Torture and there are no pinfalls - in can be ended by submission only.

Don't be surprised if this appears as a PPV in the future.

About as stupid as complaining about the others.

Don't really agree with that. As Kat Von D said, the main difference was that SS and RR were portrayed as time-of-year gimmicks, whereas most of the others were feud-enders.

Besides, the "sprawling" nature of RR and SS meant that they couldn't really be feud-enders in themselves, as the personal nature of feuds would end up being diluted by the presence of so many people. I think that could also be an argument for EC; having it as a New Year show was a good idea, I thought.

HIAC, submission matches and whatnot - the complaints about them being made into whole PPVs is most likely because they're supposed to be busted out when two guys (or tag-teams) are so pissed off at each other that they resort to these. That's always been the way with non-multitude gimmick matches. Having them at set times of year restricts things a little - where does a super-intense feud go when they're not at the right month for a HIAC or an Extreme Rules match?

With regards to gimmicks, I'm still holding on to the fact HHHs love of Wargames will one day see the gimmick make it to WWEs shores.

It's a fantastic fued settler and a mammoth event. The Network could push the hell out of it.

But then once it's been done, leave it for another 5+ years till the next mega fued requires it.

Surely you could perhaps do a version of "War Games" with one ring if they don't want to do the two ring one? Amazed it hasn't been tried.

or if you really want to go wacky. Two rings in two different buildings. Six vs Six, but in each individual ring, three vs three.

Obviously not WWE, but Lethal Lockdown is effectively a 1-ring Wargames. It's always felt very cluttered to me, even in the 6-sider which I think was a bit bigger than the standard WWE ring?

What about having a three on three war games match in the elimination chamber? I think that was an option on one of the old Smackdown games.

Less wrestlers means less space, but the Extra bits round the ring reduce clutter anyway

Missing one of the best parts of War Games for me (or at least War Games prior to 98) - submission was the only way to win.

If you lot are thinking about WWE putting War Games in one of their existing structures, I did "War In A Cell" in my fic-fed a few times. Plenty of room for 8 guys to beat the shit out of each other between the ring and the outside between the apron and the Cell walls.

Of course, being a Russo-esque booker, I snuck in extra bollocks like weapons hidden under the ring, mystery partners, a rigged coin toss so the "extra man" advantage shifted sides near the end to make you think the heels were going to get their comeuppance (they didn't).... yeah.
