Anyone got some series recommendations? I’m currently only watching the latest series of My Hero Academia while I’m waiting on Spy x Family to come back and have finished Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer (till the final arc movie trilogy comes out), Attack on Titan and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

My stock answer because it's so good is the OG Berserk series from 1997, the peak bit of dark fantasy. For a modern show maybe Made in Abyss? Just watch out as it will fuck you up, it's surprisingly grim for such a cute looking show.

I actually came in here to say the remake of 80s/90s classic Ranma 1/2 is brilliant and nails both the aesthetic and humour of the time, they haven't tried updating the show to modern anime sensibilities and are sticking really close to the original manga. I'm loving it so far.

Next year the Attack on Titan Concert goes on a World Tour.

September 28th is the only UK date at Wembley Arena.

Tickets are on sale now for anyone interested. I'm already booked up and very much looking forward to it having seen some of the videos from their previous concerts.

Still on my Gundam kick and started rewatching the one we all saw on Toonami/Cartoon Network, Gundam Wing. It's waaay over the top compared to the OG's but is still great, the OP's are all bangers too.

For lack of something else I'd watch on a Saturday night I stuck on Goku: Midnight Eye on. Fifty minutes, produced in the late eighties, dubbed some time later by the likes of Steve Blum (Starscream from Transformers: Prime, Wolverine, etc.) and Rebecca Forstadt (Juliet from Dogtanian), it's about a private eye who has to gouge out his left eye to avoid being killed and is given a computer replacement eye and a power staff that changes in size (a bit like in Monkey). Boobs on show, lots of violence, beautiful animation with lots of colour, but the score is pretty dire. Definitely worth a watch, not too deep and played for fun.

Just stuck on the sequel, which looks to be on the same level of quality.

I got quite a way into Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting  earlier this year on Netflix, but have taken a bit of a break from it whilst doing a rewatch of King of the Hill.

It’s about a teenager who takes up Boxing after getting bullied at school and him rising up through the ranks of amateur boxing through to being semi-pro and so on (I imagine, I’m not all the way through it yet).

The fight scenes are really well done but there a lot of episodes with quite a bit of downtime and training for fights which can become a bit repetitive, but there’s also some very questionable sexual content in it too which I’m surprised is on such a streaming service.

I will go back to it at some point as it’s fairly easy watching, although they did change the opening theme part way through its run which is a shame as the new one is nowhere near as good as the one at the beginning

Any thoughts on Cyber City Oedo? Have tried giving it a second go tonight and the excessive swearing is so obnoxious that it overwhelms the excellent visual side. Maybe it's because it's the Lord's day, I don't know.

I love it but the classic Manga Entertainment soundtrack is obviously not going to be for everyone. The original Japanese won't have the swearing or the bad ass music so that might be a better choice. Me I'm an 90s teenager so Manga Entertainment is my ideal.

It's very much of its time but I still bloody love it. Benten is still cool as fudge (mustn't offend) and his episode remains one of my favourite pieces of anime.

My daughter and I recently watched the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and bloody loved it. It starts as a lovely, contemplative almost slice of life style story about friendships, mortality and time and just gets cooler and cooler.

I love cringe old English dubs like Cyber City Oedo, it's one of the rare things I have genuine good nostalgia for. I've still got a few on VHS even though I haven't had a working player in years.. even a bit of the infamous Urotsukidoji.

Been watching Dragon Ball Daima and I'm liking it, set between Z and Super while taking a tiny, tiny influence from GT. It's very much a simpler show to start that's far closer to the original DB in tone.

Giving fucking Cyber City Oedo 808 another fucking go, motherfuckers. Just watched the first fucking episode and the animation is fucking beautiful through-fucking-out, cocksuckers. I can fucking appreciate the score being fucking done as a passion project, it's certainly not a piece of shit to be stuck back up someone's fucking ass.

About the language, though...

It might be because I watched it as an edgy teenager in the 90's but Cyber City never really struck me as much worse than anything else Manga Entertainment were shipping over.

That said a Japanese friend did tell me that a lot of that stuff wasn't necessarily massive in Japan at the time and was very much the edgier stuff.

Onto the second episode now, with a brilliant bit with the robot deconstructing why it can't fuck off.

You wouldn't ever think there would be a British adaptation of a Japanese anime where the brother of Jerome Flynn plays an androgynous killer who uses razor wire.
