Paid Members DEF Posted January 12, 2013 Paid Members Posted January 12, 2013 We got a dreadful show in Dublin. I was genuinely excited going in coz I got front row/table but after talking about Liam Neeson's junk for five minutes, it quickly went onto the subject of Mewes' dental work. And stayed on that topic for the next 3 hours. Seriously, that was it. Then they finished the show with 'Let Us Fuck' and the audience was so bored rigid at this point that nobody was even poxed to chuckle. It's not my fault Mewes snorted and jabbed his fortune away so why I had to pay 30 bob to contribute to him getting a new home that he'll eventually sell to start the snorting and jabbing cycle again is beyond me. I never wanted to open somebody up as much in all my days, as Smith & Mewes, when that show finished. I'm not bitter though. I watched Mallrats recently. I listened to that show today funnily. Standard jay and bob get old fair I'm affraid. Having listened to about 20 of the podcasts in the last week im not sure what else you would expect. They arnt like smiths Q&As. They are driven by mewes stories and way less structred than other smodco podcasts. Probably best to try before you buy next time. I could see why it would leave a bitter taste though. I much prefer smiths q&as but they are exactly as i expected them. Some funny sex laughs and some sad stories about Mewes drug use.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted January 12, 2013 Moderators Posted January 12, 2013 Would it be fair to say though, that Mewes is completely untalented? I think so.
Paid Members Maverick Posted January 12, 2013 Paid Members Posted January 12, 2013 He's certainly the Beefcake to Smith's Hogan.
Merzbow Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Would it be fair to say though, that Mewes is completely untalented? I think so. Yes, although that was part of his charm back in the 90's. I watched I Like Killing Flies this morning, and what a wonderful documentary it is with such an interesting character (even if he's a bit of a dick). I did go and have a look at the menu online and the food prices seem to be absurdly high though.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 12, 2013 Paid Members Posted January 12, 2013 i like the Kevin Smith Q & A's, but i did feel the need to drop a bomb on the audience at times.
Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted January 12, 2013 Moderators Posted January 12, 2013 He's certainly the Beefcake to Smith's Hogan. They're a pair of Horace Hogans.
Richie Freebird Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I was going to go to see the new Texas Chainsaw film this week (completely ignoring all of the negative press surrounding it) but our shitty cinema isn
ItsClobberingTime Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I would imagine it also depends on the size of the cinema and the number of high profile releases around that time too?
Richie Freebird Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I would imagine it also depends on the size of the cinema and the number of high profile releases around that time too? Yeah, that would make sense. Texas Chainsaw was #1 and out drew The Hobbit in its first week in America though (although The Hobbit was into its 3rd week by this point). I would
Loki Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Anyone who didn't go and see Dredd, but has any interest in good action movies, please go and buy a copy of Dredd on DVD/Blu Ray. Good home video sales is the only way the makers can justify making another one. And by "making another one" I mean making any 18 certificate action movie outside the big studios. Dredd was seen as an experiment to see if there was still an audience for the sort of fare we all grew up on from the 80s. According to its cinema receipts, the answer is "no".
ItsClobberingTime Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) 5 isn't that many really. What have they got showing at yours Richie? Gangster Squad and Les Mis just came out, Hobbit and Life of Pi are still doing well, and a few other things like Jack Reacher and Quartet haven't been around that long. Just depends what the local audience is really, and giving 1/5th over to TCM might not work in your area sadly. I got that old school vibe out of it and i liked it but the others didn't.
Dai Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Compliance A film about that story of when some guy phoned a fast food place pretending to be a cop, and got the boss to strip search an employee, amoungst other things. Im fighting the urge to read up more on the true story, as I get annoyed easily by stupid people. Assuming that the events in the film all did happen, then its completley crazy as to how stupid people can be, and how much they can be manipulated. As for the film, it was a decent, but I feel it would have been just as good, if not better, if it were just a 60 minute documentary, using a normal voice-over with some reconstructions. The problem was, all throughout the movie, I was just constantly thinking "How can you be so stupid", which somewhat ruins it. One positive was the director making an effort to highlight how stupid all involved were. Firstly, by throwing in the cop's "What the hell did they put in that chucken to make them all lose their fucking minds", and also highlighting how short a distance the police station was away. A couple of general points about the film: SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read - They sort of glossed over what surely should have been the most interesting part, ie, convincing the girl to suck off the boss' husband. By that point, I can sort of understand the girl being in complete shock, but what the fuck was the man thinking? - Seems like the man scared them about doing HARD TIME about the girls crime. Dont understand how a first time offence of stealing 20 or 30 bucks made them all think she would do 5 years.
