Cage has done some right old shit over the years, hasn't he? Remind me of the old pub game, which actors have never been in a bad film.. he's practically the opposite.

A quick glance at his filmography shows he starts to make really bad choices after the millenium. Some of his early work is great - Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona and Wild At Heart off the top of my head. He was also in some of the best action movies of the 90s - The Rock, Con Air and Face Off.

I remember reading that he'd lost/spent most of his fortune and got hit with a gigantic tax bill, so that might explain the sudden change of pace.

It's sad, as on his day he's capable of being excellent, but if you dilute your quality this much, people stop giving a shit about you.

I don't think it's a tax thing. I think it's a creative freedom thing. Invariably the projects he is most excited about / has the most creative control within are the worst things he does.

He just has awful, awful taste... but can be good when suitably cast and controlled by a decent director.

And then he became a bit of a cult thing and now he just gets paid to goof off.

As an action movie junkie, I enjoyed his turns in Face Off and Con Air, but the only other notable Cage movie I can think of which I really enjoyed was Matchstick Men.

Lord of War was much better than I expected it to be and I loved his performance in Bad Lieutenant. He plays manic very well, but that seems to be it these days. He has made some absolute slop recently like Justice, Stolen and Trespass (believe me, I've sat through them and even paid into see that poxy Justice flick). Kick Ass was good but not on account of Nic Cage, and I really wanted to like Ghost Rider 2 because of who was behind the lens, but apart from a few set pieces, it was fucking stinking.

I'd love a Nic Cage comeback, but at his age and genetics he'll never get his Con Air physique back to be taken seriously as that type of action star again, so I personally just hope he bangs out a few more like Castor Troy, Sailor, McDonagh and whatever his name was in Vampire's Kiss, and steers clear of generic nonsense that's no doubt going to have him cross paths with Brian Dennehy, Tiffany and the Asylum.

Grabbers. On the whole, that British low-budget horror-comedy with TV actors subgenre doesn't do much for me. This was Irish, though. It was watchable and fun enough, if you're a forgiving viewer. The alcoholic fella was the best bit. Story flat, effects not great, but one or two decent scary/tense moments.

Killing Them Softly. The cast alone got me excited enough to want to watch this, the trailers made me want to watch it even more. I wish I never had. Slow, dull and boring. Such a major let down.

Was quite a bit of fun wasn't it. Had that Tremors & Slither vibe going for it. I'm Irish and the first to shite on and skidmark up and down most Irish productions, but this was a surprising fun watch.

I share the same opinion. I really did love Chopper and The Assassination of Jesse James, so I was hyped up for this flick and just found it to be one, long tedious forced irony.

I enjoyed Cage in Kick Ass - he was brilliant as a cheesy, yet rather disturbing re-iteration of Adam West.

My mate wrote the music for Grabbers; said it opened in 10 screens in London and that was it. It's a tough market out there even for decent indy movies.
