I’ve thought about this constantly since May, and can’t get my head around it one bit. I always explain anything like this as coincidence that one might turn into something else, either for a better story or to strengthen any belief they may have about an afterlife. But, in these circumstances, it really is one hellova coincidence that I just can’t accept.

Like you I don't believe in ghosts, the supernatural, an after life etc but I too have been witness to things I just cannot rationally explain.

I suppose a coincidence is just that, and there can't be degrees to it, it's either a coincidence or it isn't...but that is so specific, yeah it can't really be explained.

Sounds like your Nan went as peacefully as can be, sorry for your loss mate.

I do believe in ghosts and spirits and whatnot, though I've never seen one personally, I know way too many people who simply wouldn't just make stuff like that up who have seen and heard very specific people or things without any explanation. A key one being that when my Mum first started dating my Stepdad, he came over the house for the first time and he's a very no-nonsense kinda bloke. He was sat in my living room and saw a woman sat on the stairs and when he stopped freaking out and described her to my Mum, it was her Mum (my Nana) who he had never seen in his life.

Last week my wife's Nana died and our neice, who is one and a half and obviously had no idea what was going on came over the next day when the family were meeting, and on their way out she turned completely unprompted to the empty space where our Nana used to sit, waved and went "bye Nana". Absolutely freaked people out.

I've never had anything like that until my son passed away this year.

I took my girls away to Butlins recently which was our first trip away without him. Randomly in the queue in front of us there was a young boy. One of the girls noted that his hair looked exactly how their brothers did. Okay, I can cope with that. Didn't think anything of it.

About 10 minutes later, the boy turned around, walked up next to me and held my hand. Okay, little bit weirder but fine.

Then his mum shouted at his sister for letting him go. And his sister had exactly the same name as one of my daughters.

It was all so fucking weird and obviously just a bunch of coincidences but all of them at once was quite overwhelming. You can't help but think.

Was playing with my little 3 year old Daughter yesterday and she mentioned “Daddy, there is a ghost by your back”.

I didn’t acknowledge it really until she mentioned it about 3 times and i asked her “ is it a friendly ghost or a scary ghost?”

”it’s a friendly ghost, it’s Daddy’s mummy”

My mother passed away about 15 years ago.  I had shown her a picture once of my mother a few months ago. But thats it.

“Bible-changing”? So it actually took God nine days to create the world, not 6?

I’ve seen a few of these posters around central London lately:

There was another one around the same place about them (birds) being government surveillance. Really makes you think.

Birds Aren't Real is great. It's basically a big satirical piss take of those pro-Trump nutcases who believe everything is somehow a conspiracy.

I hoped as much, still didn’t fancy the QR code just in case…

I guarantee in 10 years time to satirical element is forgotten and it'll just be a conspiracy people believe with all their hearts.

I was recently re-telling this story at work and seeing this thread pop up tonight made me think it's something that perhaps people here would enjoy.

Growing up my Nan always had a "friend" who lived with her called Pete. My grandad's on both sides had died before I was born and my Dad was a piece of shit who although he was present until my mid teens, had little to nothing to do with me whatsoever.

So Pete was the only male adult role model or influence I had as a kid growing up and I loved spending time with him.

He was an absolute gem of a guy and always took an interest in and encouraged things I was into like football, wrestling etc.

Once I reached maybe 9 or 10 he would take me down to the working mens club with him on a Saturday if I was over visiting.

He would generally have a stack of 20p/50p coins for the pool table and arcade machines put aside for me too.

He was the youngest of two brother's and during WW2 his big brother had joined the RAF where he had been a tail gunner.

Pete had told me that the two of them had a big fallout right before his brother had left England.

His brother's plane was shot down somewhere over Belgium after that and the last words they had ever spoken to each other were in anger.

He blamed himself for the fallout and it haunted him for years afterwards.

Pete told me that in the 70's he had worked as a taxi driver and would usually work late taking fares from late arrivals into Coventry train station.

One night he was sat in his taxi reading a paper with the rain hammering down outside when a man in a flat cap, head bowed and collar of his jacket folded up had knocked on the back window of the cab looking to get in.

Pete unlocked the doors, the guy jumped in and asked him to head in the direction of something specific which I cant remember - this story was told to me once - 30 years ago, forgive me but it was in an area called Stoke Aldermoor where Pete had been born and raised - and he would direct him from there.

As he started driving Pete said he had gotten chatting with the passenger and asked him whether he was from the area to which the guy told him that he was but he had been away for a long time.

Pete had asked him why he had been away for so long and what had brought him back to which the passenger had told him that he had went to work overseas but he wanted to come home and visit some family.

The passenger asked Pete whether he had any family to which Pete had explained that his parents had long since passed away and told the passenger about his older brother and how he had died.

He had said that he was sorry to hear that and asked Pete whether he had been close to his brother to which Pete told the story of them having fallen out and how much he had regretted it ever since.

Pete kept driving in the direction he had been asked and the passenger began telling him that he also had a brother but he couldn't imagine the guilt and regret Pete must have felt over the years.

He told Pete that all he could say was that as a brother himself, he knew there was no way he would ever want his brother to have felt that way, let alone for so long and he would have wanted to have had the chance to tell his brother that he forgave him and that he loved him.

Pete told me that he had been so engrossed in the conversation with the passenger and knew the route/area so well that he had been an auto pilot as he was driving but due to the weather, had needed to keep his eyes fully on the roads.

The passenger asked Pete to take something like the 2nd right or 1st left etc that sort of direction and then pull over anywhere on the left.

Pete had suddenly recognised exactly where he was and as he turned the corner into the street and pulled over as instructed he began to tell the passenger that they would never believe it - but that Pete and his brother had been born and raised in a house on that street.

As he pointed out of his front passenger window to his childhood home, he turned to face the passenger.

The back of the taxi was empty.

Pete told me that every hair on his body stood on end and a few seconds later, he burst into tears.

Now most people and probably a lot of you would put this down to a grandfather figure telling a kid a spooky ghost story.

I knew Pete and all I can tell you is that he never told me a single tall tale, ghost story etc. in the entire time that I knew him.

He loved to tell stories but every single one was a lived experience. Girls he had "courted", football matches he had been to, scraps between rival gangs of boys as a kid, his various jobs and experiences in the army.

That was the only story ever that was anything near this kind of thing.

He never told my younger brother or sister, only me and he only ever told me once.

Pete absolutely loved a laugh and a joke but I still remember the seriousness and sincerity in his face as he told me, even as a child.

Even for him to tell me that he had cried was so unlike him and in my experience, unlike men of that generation in general.

I believed him at the time and I still believe him to this day long after his own passing.

Guy finds a note with some money in from years ago telling him to bet on the Epsom Derby on a horse with a Santa Claus associated name...he bets on Christmas Day who comes home as the winner!

Strange coincidence?

I suspect since the 60s there's been a fair few Derby runners with names that could fit into the category, can't be arsed to go through and check each one but you'd probably be well down if you were backing them. North Light won, which could be deemed northern lights, north pole, lapland so there's some back I guess.
