Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted November 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted November 28, 2015 Don't get a fire. It's fucking pointless for reading books. It's just a tablet - it doesn't use e ink. Just get a normal kindle for fifty bucks. Well worththe investment given how many books you can then download for free if you are so inclined. Paid Members John Matrix Posted November 30, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2015 Hey folks, in expecting a few bob in iTunes vouchers over the Xmas period and wondered if anyone on here knew a way of making purchases from the US iTunes Store? Â I've googled it, and there's lots of complicated workarounds, just curious as to whether anyone here has done it, whether it worked and whether it was worth the faffing. WyattSheepMask
what file formats does a kindle support? Depends what model you get, there is a list on the Wikipedia page- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle, but the majority I tend to get are either EPUB or MOBI. You can also convert files to those formats using a program called Calibre, which is free to download
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted November 30, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2015 ELI5 the gender pay gap please. Â I had just kind of come to accept that there was a gender pay gap because I'd just always heard there was. Then I did some reading and some other people say that when you take into account a whole bunch of other stuff, actually there is no gender pay gap. But then I read somewhere else that I'm a "fucking sexist fuckhead" for thinking that maybe this whole gender pay gap thing isn't as straightforward as I had been led to believe. Â So who here knows quite a lot about it? If someone could go ahead and maybe give me something solid here.
hallicks
There's this Maddox article/video that you may have seen: http://thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=hire_women  And he quotes a ton of articles with legit research that backs up that theory. I just don't think it's as cut and dried as "gender pay gap" though, but it's tricky to argue it dispassionately or without sounding like an MRA. Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted December 1, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 1, 2015 Do you even Reddit bro? Â Thanks, hallicks. I will check out that video and see what I make of it. You're right about what you say at the end there, gender politics is a fucking minefield.

Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted December 2, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 2, 2015 Anyone remember the name of the anthology show (at least I think it was an anthology show, and this wasn't a one-off/part of an ongoing series) which ends with the boy trapped in a mirror. It's from the 70s, I think.
Paid Members Linus Posted December 2, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 2, 2015 Goosebumps had something like that - a mirror that turned a kid invisible but it lasted longer and longer until he got trapped in the mirror. That was late 80s, 90s though.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted December 2, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 2, 2015 This was definitely English — it might have been from the 80s, had a dreary look to it that could have come from the 70s or 80s.
Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted December 2, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 2, 2015 Are you sure you're not thinking about the early 80s "Video Nasty" "The Boogeyman"?

It's from the 70s, I think.I've got vague, vague memories of this, and it being proper scary. I would have been pretty young, so early 80s.I'll get my thinking cap on.
