Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 11 Author Paid Members Posted July 11 Yeah I do think Whittaker is gonna prove too small for 205 in the long run but this might not be the fight that exposes that. Krylov’s not great. Pretty much the same as Ebb for the main card predictions for me, except I picked BSD over Paddy in the poll. Really not sure on that one though. It’s a step down from Gaethje for Paddy obviously but I still think Benoit is his toughest opponent besides that. Probably also a bit of wishful thinking in me picking BSD as well though. Aside from that, I’m going Holloway with the stoppage, Sandhagen points, Kavanagh points in probably the FOTN and Green/McKinney is a tough one but I’m leaning towards Green as well. He could just as easily get bombed out in a round, you know what McKinney’s like. But I’m thinking Green’s gonna be crafty enough to weather the storm and take over. Fancy Whittaker to beat Krylov and Steveson is gonna win his squash match. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 Im really glad McKinney/Green is on the main card. McKinney might be the most underappreciated all or nothing fighter in the game, never seems to move beyond prelims and inexplicably has never had a post-fight bonus despite having 8 first round finishes in the UFC. Feels to me like if he was around in the Spike-era he'd be a proper fan favorite alongside the likes of Chris Lytle, Marcus Davis and co. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 11 Author Paid Members Posted July 11 (edited) Also never been the distance and 22 of his 26 fights were done and dusted, win or lose, in the first round, 12 in under a minute and he has a couple of 7 second KOs on his record. Bloke’s a madman. He’d have been perfect for the Spike era. Could just see him on those Pearl At The Palms Fight Nights in the mid 2000s mixing with the Joe Lauzons, Spencer Fishers, Sam Stouts and Melvin Guillards. Edited July 11 by wandshogun09 Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I don't know why, but I think McGregor might win. I think everyone is far too confident he's completely washed, and if Holloway comes in over confident and leading with his chin, i'm very worried Conor might spark him early. God, I hope i'm wrong and just catastrophising. I hope Max just batters him, but I actually currently have 2 finishes in mind; 1) McGregor gets a Rd 1 KO win over a depleted, over confident Holloway and we never hear the end of it. 2) After 1 or 2 rounds its clear McGregor is completely outmatched and rather than be humiliated he does something stupid to get the fight thrown out. Whacks Max after the bell or something. Quote

I don’t know if either of you followed the “Barclaysmen” trend a while back, but my goodness if these two posts haven’t given me the same wave of nostalgic warmth as that. What would we call them though? I’m going with Bravosmen. Quote

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 12 Author Paid Members Posted July 12 (edited) I haven’t enjoyed seeing a rapist knacker his leg up since, oooh, McGregor’s last fight almost five years ago to the day. The one ending to the fight I don’t think any of us even entertained and it seems kind of obvious now that the prick might just crumble physically. To Daz’s point above from last night, this is why a lot of people were confident that he was washed up. A fighter can’t just be off for five years, after an injury like he had last time we saw him in there, living the lifestyle he does outside the cage, and expect to come back without a problem at 38 years old. Something has to give and that’s all gonna catch up to you eventually. If we’re being honest it probably had already caught up to him in that last Poirier fight in 2021. We’re at the point now where this is three separate cases in a row, spaced out over years, of him being derailed by injuries. The third Poirier fight five years ago, then pulling out of the Chandler fight in 2024, now this. We need to just accept this for what it is and what it’s been for some time. He’s a broken down junkie rapist cunt and nothing more. Even if he’d been active this whole time, at 38 he’d be past his prime now. Why some were expecting him to roll back the years after all this time away I don’t know. It almost felt like the buildup to the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight at times to me, where a lot of people seemed to spend the entire buildup watching highlights of Tyson in the 80s and had somehow convinced themselves that version of him was gonna show up. All the people I saw who were confidently picking McGregor seemed to be basing it on fights he had in 2015/16, a time when he was young, active, a whole decade ago and the fights were in different weight classes. His only chance was early and even then, to say people were being “far too confident Conor was completely washed” is a bit much for me. We didn’t know for sure but there was definitely more to base that opinion on given the circumstances than there was of Conor coming out and smoking Max early. If anything, people were probably even overestimating the early KO threat from Conor. When has he shown that kind of power at 170, other than against a shot Cerrone? The main thing giving me concern power-wise was that Max was coming up in weight. In short, this was piss funny. Hilarious way for it to play out. Edited July 12 by wandshogun09 Quote
jimufctna24 Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) As some of the more savvy minds on X have pointed out. Cocaine use weakening bones + choice of techniques that put particular strain on leg muscles/ligaments/cartliage + carrying way too much weight for his frame + age = recipe for shambolic performance. Whether McGregor injured himself in the cage or had already injured himself while warming up is unclear, but the seeds for his injury were already planted regardless.
