He sold PPVs, he drew at live shows, he got the live crowd pumping and was involved in more than one rise in the popularity in wrestling. I understand what people's view of a good wrestler is can vary heavily, and I'm not a fan as the American Jingosim didn't hook me, but anybody who thinks he couldn't work when you see the reactions he got is mental. I thought it might be down to him being a cunt, but he's higher than the past two versions. Yeah I find that quite hilarious. Like not including Michael Jordan in a basketball top 50 or not including Messi, Ronaldo or Pele in a football top 50. Putting the fact he's a pop culture icon to one side, I'd find it hard for anyone to credibly deny the part he played in elevating the pro wrestling globally. But hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted June 4 Paid Members Posted June 4 What I like about this place is that, for the most part, we all treat wrestling as some daft hobby we all should've grown out of by now so even when we're constantly moaning about stuff we're doing it with the benefit of knowing none of it really matters in the long run. I've looked at some of those other forums this morning (Pro Wrestling Only and Freakin' Awesome) and they all seem to treat wrestling as this super-serious discipline that requires page upon page of circular arguments to discuss. This place enhances my love of wrestling; I think those other forums would kill it. Team UKFF 4 Lyf. If this was 2009 we'd absolutely 'invade' DVDVR right now, wouldn't we? Quote

I lurk on PWO and FAN. I enjoy scanning through them, but somehow this place finds the right pitch for me. Somehow wrestling, shitting threads and a compilation of chippy teas is far more palatable. To use Simpsons references, FAN feels far more American and tribal, thus there is a real Helen Lovejoy syndrome about the discussions, and then you get PWO. A glorious place to find a match recommendation but entirely filled with those nerds Homer has to crash with at college. Quote
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted June 4 Paid Members Posted June 4 I looked at the TWC forums perhaps half a dozen times but I've never looked at any other wrestling forums. As has been pointed out, why would you. Somehow this place has struck a balance that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. In fact the only other forum I have posted on is for an online browser based game, and that is not as much fun as here. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Should just change the title to Best Message Board Ever - although obviously we know that's not up for discussion. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted June 4 Paid Members Posted June 4 I’m paraphrasing, but I saw a Bret Hart quote recently where he said he took pride in the fact that nowadays everyone wants to wrestle like Bret Hart, whereas no-one wants to wrestle like Hulk Hogan. Certainly true, and Bret will always be Number One or Two in my list depending on when I last watched a Bryan Danielson match, but I almost think we’ve gone full circle now. In the Workrate Era, I wish more guys did want to wrestle like Hulk Hogan. I get enough good technical matches. Give me some cartoon campiness. Essentially what I’m saying is that the market has never been more open for someone like Larry Sweeney. Man would be a millionaire right now if he was still alive. 12 Large! Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted June 4 Paid Members Posted June 4 I loved Larry Sweeney. Tragic, imagine him in AEW - he'd be an absolute star. Quote
AshC Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Where are all these wrestlers wanting to wrestle like Bret? I'd watch much more 2026 wrestling if I could see these. From where I stand, most want to wrestle like Tornado Dragon* or someone, 100 miles an hour, almost the antithesis of Bret. *may have made this name up. Quote
