WCW nostalgia is, at best, a symptom of middle age. 

There aren't a large percentage of people still watching wrestling in 2026 who've lingering affection for WCW, and of those that do they wouldn't have much interest in a WWF launching a poor copy that wouldn't resemble WCW at all and would just use the letters.  

WCW's peak was, basically, 30 years ago. It'd be like watching in 1998 and thinking there's a huge market for wrestling as it was in 1968.

I'd wish they'd do more with the archives (in general, not just of WCW) but while there's a dedicated online community of people who're interested in old wrestling footage, alas, when they had the network they learned what we probably already knew. It's small and niche. 

Got curious. As of May 16, 2026 here is the current status of everyone who held the WCW title. It shows how long ago it was.

There are Google drives out there with pretty much every WCW show along with thousands and thousands of hours of all the good stuff. No one needs to rely on WWE for nostalgia, the Vault is great but ultimately it’s one line item on a corporate spreadsheet that will be one of the first things to get cut when it’s no longer deemed worthwhile.

What made WCW is that was an alternative product with different styles and production to the WWF but with a few familiar names. In 2026 that’s AEW. Nobody else needs to try.

in terms of WCW talent that people would actually associate with WCW rather than just being someone who had a few matches there, that are still active, and aren't under contract elsewhere, realistically what are you looking at for a WCW nostalgia PPV twenty-five years after the company closed?

Chavo Guerrero Jr? Ultimo Dragon? Meng? Crowbar? Super Calo? Juventud Guerrera? Big Vito? 

So, maybe you could have a 50 year old Rey Mysterio carry the oldest Cruiserweight match of all time. At a push you could probably talk Booker T out of retirement, and Vampiro will have forgotten he's retired by this time next week. But it's not exactly a rich seam of nostalgia.

 

By comparison, if, when WWE ran the first One Night Stand, they had instead decided to do a nostalgia show for something that came twenty-five years earlier, they'd be reaching back to when the company was called the WWWF, and they'd be trying to book The Wild Samoans and Pedro Morales.

Only other way that comes to mind in which one could recreate the wCw is if you have a roster of the kids of the big stars, like Cody Rhodes, Charlotte Flair, Bronson Steiner, etc. But, obviously, there's no value in that at all, and literally no reason to do it. In fact, every reason not to do it.

Simply put, the ship sailed a long time ago. It's done.

I see this question asked a lot of Reddit. The answer is “no”.

Why would it work? The brand has been dead for over a quarter-century now. WWE has done nothing but shit on WCW in that time (and for years before). Why are they suddenly going to turn around and go, “Hey, let’s now try and promote WCW as a viable brand!”
