Other than Don Callis, there isn't many others that are prominent Other than MVP or Prince Nana. Mark Sterling is ok, but nothing earth shattering. The others wouldn't really have any story to become involved with Knight, so kind of rules them out completely. It actually raises a good point that the depth of managers/non wrestler characters is pretty shallow to be honest in AEW. But then again,.do they REALLY need them? Quote

Prince Nana would give Knight the benefit of having Swerve by his side - essentially a second spokesperson who could also mentor him off screen and help him work on his promo ability. Swerve wasn’t always as reliable on the mic as he is now, so having someone with you who has been on a similar journey couldn’t hurt. Plus, when the time is right, it potentially sets up a future feud between the two of them. You could even have had him buddy up with a wrestler who is a better promo than he is - someone who can do the heavy lifting on the mic while he works to get better. Outside of that, I’d have been tempted to bring someone new in to manage him; whether it’s a legend or someone doing great managerial work on the indie scene. I think it would be better to take time finding the right person than to simply shove him in the Don Callis family, a path that has been tread many times by many people, not adding much to any of them. If there was ever anyone that I wanted to twat Bryce Remsburg, it’s Rush. Didn’t get it here, but someday. I still think whatever Lio Rush is supposed to be now is a bit shit, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued as to where they’re going to with it. Good promo from Mark Briscoe after the match too, I wish he’d break away from that bunch of losers he hangs around with though. You’ve got Briscoe, Andrade and seemingly Kevin Knight all vying for a shot at MJF. That’s plenty of people you can put MJF at Forbidden Door and in the lead up to Redemption (assuming that they’re going Roth MJF v Omega). It would be a shame if they just wasted it all and threw them together in a Fatal 4-Way. The crowd seemed a bit quiet for Mone’s return didn’t they? There was no “welcome back!”, only a smattering of “CEO!” chants that died pretty quickly. They got there eventually, but it seemed to take a while to get the crowd. Had they gone with Hayter as the wildcard, depending on went over you’ve got a build-in motivation for the loser to turn on the other whenever they decide to split them. They’d mentioned about Alex and Will going for the win in their respective tournaments. If you put Hayter over, what a bitch that makes her to take that away from her friend. If you put Alex over, then Hayters having to watch on from the shadows while her tag partner strikes out on her own. Instead, Alex has fallen at the first hurdle and the whole things over already. Not bother about Jericho & Ciampa. I’m sure the match will be fine whenever it happens, but it seems like a placeholder feud for both them. I was really enjoying Osprey/Davis up until all the run-in nonsense. They were having a perfectly decent match, as you would expect them to considering they’re mates. It didn’t need 12 people doing run-in’s. I really want to like Mark Davis’ matches, but I struggle to get into them because there’s always that feeling that he’s never far away from another longterm injury layoff. Quote

The Brawling Birds have barely been around for 5 minutes and haven't even had a title shot yet. I don't think they should be running a break up angle already! Anyways, I'm 99.99% certain they are winning the tag titles at All In. Quote

I never considered the four way, but that makes sense - you’d have two Callis guys; one on the way out, and it likely transitions them to Knight vs Andrade for the TNT belt, finally turning Andrade babyface. If they sell it as Kevin Knight being impatient and trying to take every shortcut to the top he can, then it makes a kind of sense, but Callis has so many go-nowhere guys in his faction that it doesn't feel like siding with him is a way to get to the top the way it might do if the group was trimmed down a bit. If they had Takeshita leave more impactfully, and take out other members of the group on his way to getting his hands on Okada or Fletcher, just to get the likes of RPG Vice, Brian Cage and El Clon out of the mix, had Andrade step away from the group as he's moving more babyface and objecting to Don working with MJF anyway, you could get to a faction of Okada/Fletcher/Davis/Doyle/Knight, with Lance Archer as their bodyguard, and that's actually a pretty impressive heel stable with no dead weight. Kevin Knight backed up by Jake Doyle could be a really great pairing, but the Don Callis of it all makes it feel watered down. I also don't get focusing Kevin Knight on MJF. They've made that more a part of his turn than the fact that he attacked Darby Allin, or that he then turned on Speedball - the one constant in every Kevin Knight match since is that he wants a shot at MJF. Everyone brought up last week how him attacking Darby because he couldn't beat MJF didn't make sense anyway as MJF wasn't the champion going into that match, and now that he's a heel, it's weird that he keeps calling out MJF - why would you take someone so new in the heel role, and rather than keeping putting him in situations to get more heat on him and turn the crowd on him to establish him in that role, instead start building to a match with a bigger, more established heel, that Knight is likely to get cheered against? It makes no sense to me. It could all come together as part of the story of the Don Callis Family falling out over Don working with MJF, though if we've ever learned anything about AEW in the last year or two, it's that they have absolutely no idea when a faction has run its course. I thought the Kevin Knight/Mike Bailey match was good, but didn't feel like a match between former partners. If it had happened when JetSpeed were still together, maybe paired up in a tournament or something, it would have been great. But as it was, it never felt heated enough to be two guys who have fallen out in a major way, nor did Speedball have any kind of reluctance to get more aggressive against Knight as if he still felt the friendship could be saved, and by the same token, Knight wasn't really wrestling any differently as a heel to show that he'd moved beyond that partnership. The finish did more to say "he's with Don Callis now" than "he's a heel and this is why", which feels like a lazy shortcut rather than establishing Kevin Knight. In terms of the question of who else to put Kevin Knight with, it's tough, but I would have stuck him with Swerve and Prince Nana. There's the risk of it looking like he's playing second fiddle to a bigger star, but I don't think it's any greater than the risk of him being lost in the shuffle or overshadowed in the Don Callis Family. There's the question of why Swerve would willingly pair up with someone else who's made it clear that he wants a World Title shot, but the answer there is not to have the TNT Champion going after a different belt in the fucking first place. Even make that part of the story, have Swerve going for the World Title and trying to make Knight content with having the other, to sow seeds for them eventually breaking up. It was Swerve who got in Kevin Knight's ear first, who took credit for vouching for him to Tony Khan, and was trying to win him over before Jet Set Rodeo became a thing, so why wouldn't Kevin Knight go back to him for guidance? Swerve and Nana would be happy having him as back-up, and there's a built-in story with Hangman Page there when he gets back too. It's an improvement over Don Callis, in any case. Quote

Paid Members RedTwoster Posted June 4 Author Paid Members Posted June 4 (edited) I didn’t pick up on this at the time (not going to lie, I didn’t understand the reference even though I’d seen the show it’s from), but Excalibur closed the show by saying ‘Fix your heart or die, this is All Elite Wrestling’ which is apparently a show of support for trans rights, taken from a line in Twin Peaks. Good for him. Hope the company as a whole follows suit by actually booking Nyla Rose to do something - I can’t help but wonder if the decision not to use her is tied into the ‘current climate’ as far as trans rights is concerned.
