To be fair he has a pretty crap record for WM so, unless people want him on some sort of Undertaker level losing streak which would have meant he was a threat to nobody, he’s had to get a couple of wins.

Some just really dislike him

Which isn't a new thing based on his current role. He was fairly commonly hated on when he was bastardising the big gold belt and going over guys he shouldn't have.

Stop a horse! Nobody mentioned his record overall. I very specifically mentioned main events, which he "only" wrestled six of. Which is less than half of all his Mania matches.

Was keeping the title switch on hold to Backlash 2000 the right decision from a business sense? Yes, it drew a monster buyrate. From memory I believe only Invasion ever got more buys for a non "Big 5" PPV. Was that main event a fantastic achievement from a creative point of view, with Rock toppling H in a singles match with all the moving parts of a dozen run-ins, Stone Cold costing Corporation X and Linda bringing Earl back to count the pin? Undoubtedly, it was very satisfying. Taken in isolation, and without the benefit of hindsight, should The Rock have been permitted to get the big WrestleMania title win over his worst enemy at the peak of him being the top babyface in a world without Steve Austin? Yes, he should have.

Was it right that babyface Hunter complete the comeback by taking the title from Chris Jericho, the man credited with his injury to begin with and current client of his estranged wife? Yes, I think so. It should have been a very different match and it shouldn't have gone on last, but the right man won.

Was it for HHH to put over Ted Bundy, Batista and John Cena three years in a row? Of course.

Should Trips have dropped the WWE title to "IED" afflicted, punt-throwing Randy Orton ahead of a summer where the latter would be contesting main events with Batista and Cena, and he'd be mincing around with The Heartbreak Koot in DX v17? Yes, he really should have. Though it should have been a very different match and it shouldn't have gone on last.

Wellll.... at least he beat Goldust, Owen, Booker T and Sheamus. Although he should have lost most of those, too.

Did they even use the Jericho injuring Triple H in 01 as part of the WM18 storyline? I sorta zoned out once it became clear the real feud was actually Steph v H and Jericho was an afterthought!

FIxed for ya.

But yes, they did. They had Jericho apply the Walls on him on a table in either the go-home or right before while JR et al went loco that his quad could be re-injured. However by then the damage was done, the build had not just been poopy, but Y2J had scooped it up.

Jericho also smashed Triple H in the leg with a sledgehammer, so went into WrestleMania X8 with it strapped up and the announcers doing the whole “will his leg hold up?!” shtick ad nauseum.

After Jericho lost the match and the belt he seemed to just immediately become a bumbling mid-card act that would go Vince’s office, complain about the match he was booked in, and then be immediately swayed to “prove” himself after a pep talk from Vince.

Let's not forget, the first Undisputed Champion followed up this Mania main event by being so important, he wasn't given a match at all for Backlash.

Yup. It’s all fresh in mind as I was watching this time period just before New Year. It’s kinda funny because everything Jericho was whinging about, he wasn’t wrong. He was just typically whiny, pompous heel in the way he was going about it.

So apart from Trips, who else do we think will be going in?

Rick Martel - How the hell is he not in yet?

Demolition? Is Ax still blackballed by WWE?

Mickie James? i know she is still competing but is a better choice than previous females like Stacy Keibler or Queen Sharmell

Konnan?

Fit Finlay for his career and work with the Divas?

Kevin Dunn - Major part of WWE for decades behind the scenes, even if just for the WM22 backdrop. Plus it would be worth it just for Cornette's reaction.

finally

Vince McMahon - he has to go in at some point

Have you forgotten that Vince is blackballed for being a rapist?

people evidently dont recognise sarcasm when its put in........ :)

but seriously. how is Rick Martel not in yet?

His name pops up year after year and it's always the same that he's quite happy not travelling from Canada from it and is out the business in full so doesn't see a point.

Mickie James feels a certainty this year, if only as I can't think of many other female names that would be as deserving at this point. The constant hope for AJ Lee to return matched with her only being around for seemingly 3 years or so at most (?) would have been the only other name that popped into my head. Victoria maybe at a push?

Wouldn't mind the Hardy Boyz now that the TNA connection is there again. When you consider Edge and The Dudleys are in for the work they did with TLC etc, eventually The Hardys should go in as a team, even if Jeff has merit to go in solo.

It's maybe too early to put Bray in, and selfishly on WWE's part it'd be seen as detracting from Triple H's moment to put a sombre note on the evening.

William Regal could also be a great shout. Now that he's back in the fold, was a big part of H's start to his career and a big part of NXT now it may be time to let him have his moment and would be a stellar speech about overcoming demons and adversity and finding his place.

I always enjoy HOF night, it's cool to hear a lot of the stories typically from many people who didn't go down the shoot interview route when they finished up.

I'm pretty sure Rick Martel has turned it down a few times - he's completely out of wrestling, and doesn't do much in the way of public appearances or interviews. A museum in Montreal opened an exhibition on Montreal and Quebec wrestling last year, and it was considered quite a big deal that they managed to get Martel to attend. His nephew and grand-nephew (pictured with him below) are wrestling now, so if he does end up doing anything in wrestling I expect it would be to help them out, though I wouldn't expect it.

Demolition I agree should definitely be in, and I think will be sooner rather than later, with Vince out of the picture. They did an interview recently where they said they were asked to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony - not clear if that meant WWE planned to induct them or not - but they had another booking on that day.

If I had to guess for this year, I would say Mickie James as the token female entrant (especially as she's working with them on something now), William Regal, maybe Demolition as the tag team induction, though I could also see them leaning on the TNA connection to bring the Hardys in. There's usually an old-timer who didn't really work WWE, and there's almost no point guessing that one as nobody would have guessed Thunderbolt Patterson last year. Maybe Haku goes in this year, given half his family work there now, and it means they get to do some more Bloodline stuff - either that or Umaga, as there's usually one dead wrestler inducted, though I would think that goes to Bray Wyatt this year.

That leaves probably a non-wrestler and a celebrity - again, anyone's guess, but depending on if he's likely to wrestle again, maybe just put Bad Bunny in to get an appearance out of him, or Stephen Amell so they can get Cody Rhodes to induct him. I could see Konnan going in, rather than a complete non-wrestler, just based on how good his speech inducting Rey was, and gossip of WWE cosying up to AAA a bit more (though that's all gone quiet, really).

Given Triple H is going in, and I could see Regal going in and being acknowledged as a big part of his career, I wouldn't put it past them to induct Stephanie this year as well as the non-wrestler.
