Fair @LaGoosh, could very much be a rose tinted glasses situation. But I do co-sign that less PPV’s and some additional TV specials is the way to go. Both Grand Slams this year were pretty PPV quality with less matches. And certainly an hour of the PPV’s in general wouldn’t be a bad thing, especially if they turn the pre show into an hour long collision as they have started recently.

seeing they advertised Roddy Strong and Claudio, knowing Claudio would be going over after an unnecessarily long TV match was a big 'fuck that' moment.

Yep. Roderick Strong is, for me, the Last of the Summer Wine of wrestling - the point on a Sunday evening where I'd go 'well, I might as well do my homework if this is all that's on'.

But the builds for the 4-5 ppvs were better, because you had more time to build them up, not just a couple of weeks.

I think there's some rose tinted specs to that because it led to better TV rather than better builds to PPVs. Hangman v. Danielson played out entirely on TV. Then the blip of the Archer feud and we had about a month to build to Hangman v. Cole on PPV. Which was then wrapped up on a random live Rampage.

The PPV builds had the same mix of complaints of just right or being dragged out or multi-person matches to get everyone on the card.  Which is what we have now.

---

The 4-5 ppv era was also a great time to have an idea what was next through the rankings. Might only get a month build with someone but you had the sense it was coming. Which could help with anticipation or dread depending on how you felt about someone.

Watchable enough three hours. But I had low expectations going in.

Seen worse, seen better.

As weird and out of place as it was, to my surprise I actually quite liked the Mox/Darby segment. Felt like a bit of a throwback to pandemic era AEW.

Claudio Vs. Strong was some Rampage level bollocks. And an especially boring episode of Rampage, at that.

Thought the backstage (assuming pre taped) Statlander/Storm sit down was a bit shit and a rare Toni Storm miss. In ring stuff was much better.

Strong effort from Hayter and Blue. Low bar to clear but also a better promo from Thekla.

It's not really Collision, without Nigel at the desk.

I like Garcia's new wrestling gear.

Marina is actually growing on me. Liked her banging her head against the ringpost in frustration and she has good facial expressions.

Wouldn't be against Top God's, being a long term thing.

Overall the wrestling was decent even if nothing was really must see.

It’s spectacular. Some of the best stuff any pro-wrestling company has ever put out. The perfect combination of kayfabe and shoot. Fucker had me in tears about three times!

Disappointing to see he was originally going to come out riding a horse at All In. Not at all surprised he didn’t do it out care for the horse’s safety. Sweetest, nicest man in the game. Re-name all flowers after him.

At a time when AEW has cooled right down, it was nice to be reminded how utterly perfect they got it only a few short months ago. Hopefully they can get it back. Drives me nuts that the exact same thing is happening again to my beloved Cowboy. Utterly mesmerising chase that lands perfectly when he wins the belt, then a whole lot of messy nonsense afterwards. Get this man a solid, coherent, long-term storyline already!

Swerve went out with a knee injury, didn’t he? Hoping it’s something he can come back from soon, to rekindle their magic. Quite like the idea of Hangman feuding with The Don Callis Family, fighting off the newly-crowned Tag Champions in Okada and Takeshita, and then when Omega inevitably gets injured and sent packing again, leaving Hangman without a partner…Swerve answers the call. A real cowboy is never too proud to take the hand of a partner!

Watching Wednesday’s show, when it felt more than ever like Tony Khan has peaked as a booker and is running on steam, to then watch this? Hangman Adam Page should be running this whole fucking gaff. He’s the best storyteller in the business. He should be booking everything.

Watched it last night and it's SO close to perfect.

The one issue with it is I was planning on showing it to my wife to try to explain why I went as crazy for Hangman as I did at Forbidden Door, but I now fear she'll use it as fuel to get me to shave my moustache off cos Hanger did it (in part) for his wife.

Noticed The Bunny recently made a return to wrestling with Unos promotion in Canada. I know Ford is tied up with Megan Bayne at present but if they look to repush Bayne as a singles wrestler, Ford and the Bunny did show great chemistry last time around (the street fight with TayJay I don't think I'm seeing through rose tinted glasses, it was good).

Could be another good edition to the tag ranks with the new belts coming in.

Good suggestion! Yeah that street fight was great. The Bunny looked like a maniac laughing her head off drenched in blood. It's probably the only TayJay match in history worth watching.

I also dream of the day The Butcher & The Blade come back though I know The Blade is in a pretty bad way these days.

One of my favourite surprise matches during their golden period in AEW. Just a surprisingly violent and sloppy brawl where the workers rough edges made it a far more enjoyable match. The finishing stretch is great and had a satisfying cathartic finish. Great fun match that.

In terms of AEW pandemic-era, that TayJay vs Bunny & Ford match is up there with Arcade Anarchy and that Fall Count Anywhere match where Young Bucks and Butcher and Blade were scrapping through the kitchen for good stuff.

AEW's whole booking philosophy at that time seemed to be 'wrestling is fun!' which made for such a breezy show.
