Collision was far better than Dynamite.

Hangman’s promo was far better than Joe’s, and the announcement of the number one contender’s match was a bit frustrating in the sense that they’ve seemingly telegraphed the winner. If you’re doing Page/Joe, why even run this match? Which is why he shouldn’t win. Page/Lashley would be intriguing and building up to Page/Joe on a later show - perhaps the final Dynamite of the year - would be a more satisfying approach in my view.

If I were Tony Khan, I’d be doing much more with Mina than have her act as a jobber to the stars. She’s very over and almost feels like a Sami Zayn-style babyface. There’s a huge moment in watching her finally win singles gold in AEW.

Anna Jay has turned into a good promo. Tay Melo, on the other hand, is absolutely terrible. So were the two wrestlers who confronted them, whoever they were. Anna Jay might be someone you can do something with, if her ring work catches up with her ability to talk. Even if it doesn’t, she would be a decent manager for someone.

The MXM Open Challenge is fine. Mansoor is good on the mic, but I find MXM to be very unlikeable. They don’t come across well at all on their AEW YouTube show. Olympia looks good, and I hope we see more of her in AEW.

Seeing Eddie Kingston reduced to Hook’s sideman is absolutely bizarre. Is his contract coming up and they’re struggling to agree a new deal or something? I don’t understand why you’d do so little with him otherwise. It’s baffling, but there’s surely a reason for it, whatever it may be. 

The main event was good fun, and Jurassic Express feel like a much bigger deal this time around than they ever did during their initial run. I like Jetspeed too, the AEW tag division is in a much better place than it was one year ago.

What am I missing here. They're heels, isn't that the point? If you find them unlikable that's good isn't it? Unless I've missed something and they're real life problematic?

One of them said she was the “girl with the shiniest wizard”, and while I didn’t recognise her on screen I checked, and that was the former Tegan Nox. Looked totally different than I remembered her, and now called Nixon Newell.

Completely agree on this, it’s so weird. A wordless ringside second in a match against one of the Frat House, it’s about as low down the totem pole as you can get. He’d have made a much better option than Hook for the four way as well. So weird.

Kingston's promos have been weird since his return too. He keeps doing this kind of "yeah whatever who cares I don't wanna talk" type of promo. Why is one of the few people who can actually emotionally engage an audience with his promos just blowing them off. Feels like something odd is going on.

My hope is that Kingston is in stasis until the Death Riders turn on Moxley, presumably in the Blood and Guts cage. Get the band back together. Go for the Tag Belts.

As it is though, there’s definitely this weird energy about the whole thing. For a company that they claim is all fixed and better since they REMOVED THE CANCER, you still get these awkward, jarring directions where something is obviously going on backstage. MJF and The Hurt Syndicate being dropped out of nowhere. The return of one of the best promos in the business after over a year off, leading to him cutting, “WHO CARES?!” non-promos on the fucking B show. Get it together, lads!

Unless there is some absurdly subtle story being told, I haven't a fucking clue what's going on with Eddie Kingston. The only thing I can think of is this is HIS decision to do some weird low-key comeback, but that would just be a baffling idea to me. Something a bit odd has happened or nobody has seen what happens when you hype a big stars return after a long time away. Because Kingston IS a big star for AEW in their world, so wtf is with this meh comeback? It's no slight on Hook, but Eddie marching back into TV should have been seismic, not popping back in because Big Bill called him out.

Good luck to Nixon Newell's knees lasting more than 3 matches.

Wonder if hes got some lingering injury but was desperate to get back to it so said 'let me do a little bit to get back in the groove and see how things go before chucking me into the big storyline'. Maybe didnt want to risk being injured or having things go wrong in a big storyline, whereas like this its not such a risk?

 

Either way, does seem rather strange

Unfortunately, there does seem to have been a plan for Eddie Kingston's return. While I was hopeful that the Big Bill callout was understanding that Eddie's comeback would be a big deal and signs of things to come. Its turned out to be the Hook tandem. First to finish up a brief interaction with Bill & Keith before leading to LFI. RUSH's injury may have derailed whatever was to come of that. 

Don't know what to expect from the 4-way. Glad he's not in it as he'd be a potential fall guy. As Hook/Eddie seeman afterthought to Opps v. Hangman and Demand v. Hurt Syndicate.

I'm actually starting to think that there might be backstage issues with Eddie. It's all very strange. 

Overall a solid Collision. 

I liked Thekla in Stardom but she's been pretty shit in AEW, imo. Some of her selling/bumping against Mina was embarrassing. 

Mina is good fun but her slingblades are still awful. 

Sisters of Cringe really need to ditch the talking at the same time routine. 

I really like MXM but the whole Casting Call thing just isn't landing, imo. Nowhere near as fun as Platinum Max. 

Outrunners, Dalton and Not The Acclaimed's segment was a good laugh. 

Nice to see Nixon show up. Though I haven't seen her wrestle in years so can't really comment beyond that.

I think he looks great! He’s menacing as fuck, and he’s someone who could easily be a top star for the company if they wanted him to be. He can be spectacular in ring, but that never outweighs the fact he can come across as genuinely terrifying.

It’s awful. When you have so little charisma you can’t even pull off speaking in a monotone you’re clearly bad on the mic. Both Hart and Skye have come a long way in the ring, and I hope they’re capable of similar growth on the mic.

I like her, but she could do with a manager. Like her stablemates, as soon as she gets on the mic, things fall apart slightly.

I think Eddie Kingston is a victim of bad timing; the worst thing you can be in AEW is outside of Tony Khan's long-term plans, so you get stuck in a holding pattern until it's time for him to do something with you. We'd have all loved to have seen King get involved with Moxley, but Mox is accounted for, so he has to hang around doing something else until he factors into other plans. And when that time comes around, it's harder to justify him getting involved in a major storyline, because he's been allowed to cool off, and doesn't feel at that level. It's Jamie Hayter getting a big comeback and then doing the square root of fuck all for months all over again.

You put it like that, and it really is unbelievable that Moxley didn't transition into a feud with Kingston. So many ways you could have done it. But no, the Darby programme shuffles on, and Kingston spins his wheels hanging around Hook.

You've got Eddie Kingston, the most grudge-holding, petty, never letting anything go, angry babyface in the world, and his mate Jon Moxley has been hanging about not only with Claudio Castagnoli, the guy Kingston hates more than anyone, but with Gabe Kidd, the man who put Eddie on the shelf in the first place? Even if he's not angry at Moxley for all the attempted murder, he should be pissed off at that.
