I’m legitimately shocked that this happened in 2025. I had to go back and check as it seems like a lifetime ago. That might be my match of the year too, but there are a lot of strong contenders - Storm/Mercedes, Hangman/Moxley, Bandido/Takeshita, Cena/Styles, Iyo Sky/Rhea Ripley, Athena/Mercedes, Page/Ospreay - heck, FTR vs The Outrunners is even in contention for me. It’s been one hell of a year.

I would be hard pressed to give anything but Bandido vs. Hechicero my match of the year nod, but that says more about how this is the first year that mainstream TV has catered to my tastes for wacky lucha submissions than the quality of any other match that happened.

I’ve not actually seen that match but I can’t imagine it being anything less than tremendous. I’ll need to seek it out. 

I really hope Bandido wins big at the UKFF Awards this year. Although it’s hard to look past Brodido in the tag team category, he’s worth at least a nomination for best men’s wrestler, and I can’t see past him for the breakout award. He may not be new to the scene but this was without a doubt his breakout year.

I’m very conflicted. On one hand, I really want him to win, on the other, we live in a world where Hangman Page has yet to lift that prize.

I can't see past Hangman for Men's Wrestler of the Year, but I'd be very happy to have Bandido in the mix. 

... Have we had a Hangman vs. Bandido match yet? Seems so obvious from a Wild West point of view, if nothing else, and would surely be fantastic, but I can't recall it happening in AEW.

I can’t see any evidence of them having ever locked up at all on Cagematch, even outside of AEW.

It’s nice to see Hangman and Eddie in the same match, and I hope this is all part of a longer story arc that’ll eventually result in a heel Kingston challenging Page for the title. Fingers crossed and all that.

On the one hand this would be cool to see as it ups the Samoa Joe/Hangman feud, and gives Dynamite some big progression.

On the other hand, another big heel stable.

Another new men’s title? What on earth is Tony Khan playing at. What’s the point in this? It seems to be his go-to tactic when there’s a creative lull, but who on earth could possible care? I mean fuck, why bother creating the Unified title if you’re going to create a new singles title in short order. 

When the announcement came at the start of the show I’d thought that this surely must be for the female equivalent of the Continental Classic, but nope. Utterly pointless, no one cares, stop it Tony Khan.
